Those who run Tomtom, garmin, snooper - would any of you bother and tell me the filenames your current uk maps are on please?
Snooper map version: P2000K4L0407X
cheers Tommy, is it how the actual files are named?
Tomtom map is Europe_West_945_6174

Yup but with EU- before P2000K4L0407X That is the map version number, Just scanned through the map downloader’s log “TRUCKMATE_CE_EU_V16.0” would be the compressed package it downloaded from their servers
cheers,
Wayne, that’s interesting, i was expecting the file name to be something like this - United_Kingdom_R3_TomTom_2013.03_130614_(SP)
My Snooper db8500 - Map gb-P2000K4L0303X Software 3.0.0.40 TRUCK CE
Tomtom trucker 6000 running "Europe TRUCK v950.6533 " released date 05/2015

The file on my Chinese made ‘truckers’ satnav has a virtually identical name to that. To be fair my Chinese model, it is as every bit as accurate as the genuine TomTom XL I have as back up, in fact I’d go as far as to say the Chinese one has a lot more details, even to the point where it gives warnings of potential deer in the road.!!!
I am guessing you could call the file almost anything, as long as it is in the correct format for the machine.
cheers all,
yeah, from what i understand the chinese satnavs are using the same maps as, for instance, TomTom, as in my example above. However it appears that they are running on older map versions as NewBoy says he is on May-2015 release.
It is not clear when the promised updates would appear for the chinese satnavs. I suspect it is a matter of copy an paste the latest set of map files.

Does it show every Chinese takeaway aswell?
I’m a few months behind on my sat nav, but I do it myself, it’s not automatic, so I usually skip 1 or 2 between updates due to laziness
Those that can buy dear satnavs, do so. Those that cannot, buy cheaper ones, and then make a point of harping on about them.
If anyone can point me to a “I bought a quality satnav, and it did exactly what I expected it to” thread, I’ll delete this post.
If I want a decent tv, I pay a little bit more and go to a reputable tv seller, warranty, after sales service. Etc
I don’t go to Lidl and wonder why it hasn’t got 5.1 dingly dongly connectivity with a free bath mat and a lifelong warranty.
And a free carrier bag for me to defecate into later on in the week

Indeed, but up to a point when you are pushed to buy something heavily overpriced. I won’t go into the details how modern branding works.
Agree it makes perfect sense to
"PaulNowak:
pay a little bit more
but £70 vs £300 does not look “a little bit” to me unfortunately.
I appreciate though everyone has its own value of a little bit and really hope that extra £230 would be nothing for me at some point.
£300 over the lifetime of the device (let’s say 4 years) is around £1.50 per week - which is a lot less than just ONE frothy coffee or grease burger. …
Quite happy with my (very) old Tomtom 530 running Truck maps and navcore.
2 things I’d pick up on:
The latest navcore (required for latest maps) has lost the ’ and " off the keyboard when setting heights, so you have to mess around a little tiny bit.
For some reason, Tomtom truck (and this includes the ones you buy as a Tomtom truck) doesn’t liked Westinghouse Road and won’t turn right onto M60 (Oldham direction) from Snipe (Ashton Under Lyne), tries to send you round / turn around to turn left onto the motorway
But, as I’ve always said, if you know a better way than the sat nav, take that, if not, the sat nav will get you there, may not be the most perfect route, but it’ll get you there.
And ALWAYS use common sense, whether sat nav or truckers map, the information changes - especially weight limits with NIMBY’s - and can possibly be incorrect (check height of bridge at Asda in Ashton Under Lyne in any truckers atlas)
Just an update on this thread, there a new map update on my tomtom trucker 6000

What’s included in the update? New speed limits on there yet?
