Maybe those doing 45 are aware that 40 ■■■■■■ everyone off and agree that the speed limit should be reviewed so they are trying to go a little bit faster without going recklessly fast which might attract attention to themselves. 70kmh is roughly the speed limit + 10% so not likely to get a ticket.

As said, you only have to lose 2 mph if you see a camera then.
The exception to this is leaving a ferry. 40 then. All the other trucks pass you, then you pass them at the Vosa checkpoint! Sweet…

You are a cockhead! Let him go by you…20 seconds off the gas and he’s gone and you can go back to reading your newspaper, picking your teeth or whatever else it is that amuses you tiny brained people. You have no divine right to think “I’m in front so [zb] you”. In the words of John Rambo “let it go”
Too much thinking for me, i just like to do what i wanna do. Whether thats making people slow down so i can pass them, or making them slow down so they gotta stay behind me i don’t care. I’m just cracking on at my own pace. I’ve been doing it a long time and havn’t come a cropper yet so i know i’m getting something right !! I think ■■

I should really be on the limit as I’m on a day rate, but I think that if I get back too early too often, management will simply find another drop to put on. Therefore I drive relaxed, have proper breaks and don’t break my back at the drop, and get back at a sensible time.
I don’t join in the “you should be able to get to (whatever) by (whatever) o’clock” brigade.
merc0447:
I do 44/45 as I feel it takes the edge off especially artics behind you it puts 90% of them off a overtake.
Are you averse to being overtaken? if you’re happy at 44/45, why do you need to hold those who want to go faster? You’re breaking the law at that speed, so why stop the others who are breaking the law a bit more?
I honestly think there is a mentality demonstrated here that is the “ha ha, you are behind me and you aren’t getting past me” way of thinking. I’ve never got it…if I’m on the speed limit then you can go by me as long as you’re safe to do so. If I’m on the limiter then it’s your judgement to overtake me but if it’s a dual carriegway I will dip a wee bit to let you go.
There is no mentality certainly from me I prefer to have clear mirrors not mirrors full of trucks or cars . I didn’t say I stop people from overtaking me, I just find doing 44 puts trucks off an overtake. Artic overtaking another artic on s/c is up there with one of the most stupidest things to do. The distance, the weight, the speed limiter it’s a ■■■■■■■ crazy manoure. People like newlad who are paid day money and drive like headless chickens, forgetting the very license that puts food on the table is the very licence they put at risk. Now I thought I was doing people like newlad a favour in the past just taking that little edge of a quite horrendous speed limit, but obviously I’m not. But am not pulling in because like the majority of people driving hgvs nowadays you have bleedin mpg targets to meet. So in the future if I see a turners behind me I’ll assume it’s either a pole or Lewis Hamilton behind me and I’ll slow down to 40.
Hell why we complaining about people doing 44/45 why no complain about these lorry drivers doing 50 the daft sods that they are. Because it’s the exact same argument why is 50 acceptable to newlad but 44 isn’t?
New lad using patter like ‘crack on’ won’t be long till he is using the phrase ‘on the pin’ must think he’s bloody Irish or summit.
Can’t believe what I am reading here! Does the o/p expect the road to clear of law abiding drivers so he can speed with impunity, or until he hits something or his heart packs in? Artics overtaking each other on a single carriageway road is just nonsense, no matter how flat and straight it appears to the driver.
Drift:
If some one is obeying the law deal with it or even learn from it, your employer wont take the fine or the points or stand up in court at an inquest and tell the family of an accident “well I told the driver to ignore the speed limits and crack on to keep the customer happy”
Seriously have you not got an extra 10 minutes in your day to allow you to ease off and make life more chilled or wait for a bleedin dual carriageway?
Wtf are you on about mate , these “crack on” stars need to…crack on, they have to impress their boss for the pat on the back, to show how errr … good they are , by going as far as risk their licences to make him a few extra quid. They know that when they do lose their licence they will be retained on full pay due to being so appreciated, and being that there is a vast shortage of other drivers.
10 mins to spare? no chance, they have their reputation to think about, just look how good it looks, an artic teararsing on the limiter through a 40 limit, then sat up somebody’s arse and passing at every opportunity, maintaining their (and our ) public image.
As the other guy said it should be 56, brilliant idea mate, we can be pushed even more then, to an even tighter set schedule, well thought out bud, bring it on .Love this job!
NewLad:
I just don’t get it, on a single carriageway I’ll sit behind a chap doing 40mph until their is a safe enough place to pass if I even feel like I want to pass, but why do some people sit at 45mph? Your already breaking the law and inpatient people or people who want to crack on (like myself from time to time) are left needing a greater distance to get past.
I really don’t get it, it should be flat to the mat or legal, so this half hearted stuff.
(I’m not talking about twisty roads either where it isn’t safe to crack on, I’m talking about long straights.)
I take it by your comments and your location that you are one of those individuals who inhabit the A17 and sit inches from the vehicle in front, when you have no chance of overtaking. All you do is prevent car drivers from overtaking, which to me is a selfish attitude that gives us all a bad name and just causes massive jams behind lorries.

Not be long before using magnets ,pulling fuses ,wires, and clicking the keys are back in fashion ,crack on with it fellas ,im happy to plod on
You forgot roping and sheeting-you aint a proper driver unless you can do that with all the right knots facing the right way, smoking a woodbine, sleeping in a damp flea bitten bed at a transport cafe, and maybe a dislocated finger from turning the starting handle.

Here’s the problem…the guy infront doing 45 wants to do exactly what HE wants to do, you want to do exactly what YOU want to do. You then want him to drive to accomodate YOU ? !!
You can actually get a lot of novelty value from an impatient driver behind by altering your speed up and down a bit, occasionally tapping the brakes so the lights come on, indicate right occasionally even when carrying straight on. It can be fun to watch them in your right hand mirror bobbing out to see whats going on. Then when other lorrys are approaching i flash them and put my thumbs down, no idea what it means but they say thanks with a thumbs up and a flash of the lights back and they slow right down. It doesn’t have to be a boring mundane job, you can make your own fun.

Unbelievable, We’ll have someone else on tomorrow moaning about people doing 40 in a 40, it’s pathetic, some people have jobs where they ain’t rushed so why should they drive around flat out all day everyday, I’m paid by the hour so obeying the law means more wonga.
Which is why I said why do 45 when the limit is 40.
I’d take a look at your own driving mate rather than questioning someone who wants to do 45 in a 40
This is the sort of thread Pimpdaddy normally gets involved in, but tesco hasn’t been mentioned yet so I guess he’s giving it a wide berth…well it has now…

Because you know Tesco is irrelevant here as there’s no way they’d be doing more than 39.5 on a SC NSL road. They’d get a nosebleed if they broke 40 mph.

Believe it or not, fella I work with got done for speeding in May, he’s got his speed awareness course this month, 47 in a 40, who says tesco drivers don’t speed
