Dose any body know how fast a fly flys,i had a welsh fly in my cab, coming back to london ,i was doing 55 and the fly was quite happy flying around.i open the windows but he would not get out i would like to know. This is not a wind up
never thought about it,usually they don’t last long when they buzz around my cab

The top speed of a fly is approximately 800mph depending on air temperature and humidity. When a fly breaks the sound barrier it creates a tiny sonic boom that is audible to most human ears. Listen carefully next time you see a fly really caning it and you might hear it.

The speed you were travelling at is irrelevant, since the fly was moving in an environment isolated from external forces. If you want to get very technical, you weren’t travelling at 55mph, you were travelling somewhere between 600 and 700 mph, since that is the speed at which the earth rotates.

If you want to get very very technical, you weren’t travelling at 55mph or 700mph, you were travelling somewhere around 67,000mph, since that is the speed at which the earth orbits the sun.
Get yourself one of these.

I find even if they have been flying against a closed window they often don’t try to fly into it once the window has been opened? Does the air through the open window stop them flying out or something?

If you want to get really , really technical, you weren’t travelling around 67.000mph either, you were traveling at around a rate of 74.3 plus or minus 2.1 kilometers (46.2 plus or minus 1.3 miles) per second per megaparsec (a megaparsec is roughly 3 million light-years), as that is the speed at which the universe is expanding.
That cant be right only calibrated 3 months ago,no over speeds
If the fly was moving from the back of the cab forwards then it was flying faster than your speed.

what about left to right

That depends were you were turning left or right.
was it from north wales or south wales makes all the difference to speed velocity …also was this daytime or night time and had the fly eaten anything sugary or drunk some red bull all this needs to be factored in

If you want to get very very technical you were travelling at the speed the Earth spins (1000mph at the equator) plus 168miles per second that the Milky way spins

Depends how hard you hit it.
