Seen a few weather battered “Remember Me” signs stuck to trees recently and reminded me of this thread. Is “Remember Me” some kind of website to victims?
Apologies for waking an old thread, but I’ll give drivers a heads up on a possible hazard on the A41 near Waddesdon (Aylesbury side); There was a fatal RTC last week and there has been a lot of cars stopping close by to lay flowers. Lots of school age kids, students etc and the cars aren’t parked that sensibly. More of a hazard to those going towards Aylesbury just past the Winchendon/Quainton crossroads as it’s just as you go into the bend toward Fleet Marston.

What’s wrong with families wanting to mark the spot where they lost someone?
Never seen the point in it myself.
I mean, if somebody dies in hospital, you don’t get loads of people laying flowers on the hospital ward every anniversary.
The Sarge:
Even if they’re stopping on a hard shoulder, or some other stupid place, to do it? Do you think they’ll be insured if someone with no licence kills them, Ady?
Reminds me of a visit to Malta in the early 90’s. There is a shrine to somebody in the central reservation of a dual carriageway near Luqa airport. Apparently more people have been killed there than anywhere else on the island. I’m sure there’s a lesson in there somewhere!

‘…Floral Tributes … why keep doing it years after…?’
Because the perpetrators are barren of both spirit and meaningful identity - often proudly preferring to be products-of-the-self which they then selfishly foist upon others, mate
Dont think id want my family to stand on the side of the road with a bunch of manky petrol station flowers to remember where i met my maker. Look awful after a few weeks wind rain and exhaust fumes too.
It amazes me how people get to place them beside motorways. I think they’ve been removed now, but on the A418 near Haddenham there used to be three nameplates fixed to a tree, which were three young lads who died when one of them crashed the car they were in and caught fire. Quite a sobering thought as the verge was still churned by the car going over and the tree and fence were charred.
I used to know somebody who would make the effort to stop their car, get out, remove flowers from roadside, place them in front of wheel and crush them to pieces as he drove off.
He wasn’t all there and is now in a place where he can be cared for properly.

Hmm, it happened late on a Friday night when ‘they’ were later proven to be giddily outside the law, their capabilities and their heads & I was running tight to Oxford for a Saturday, 10.00hrs tutorial & got a scenic divertion to enjoy…
Good taste, respect & discretion dictates that I leave it at that

That’s the one mate, I’d heard the circumstances but didn’t know if it was true, I delivered to someone a few years back that came across that crash where passing motorists got one person out. The flowers just seemed to stop after a couple of years rather abruptly, the nameplates taken down etc.
jessicas dad:
your hard pressed to find a spare lampost on the leeds ring road.
Too bloody true.
Some of the fresh bunches are quite useful top give for mothers day, especially when theres not much cash around, could also be used for birthdays, anniversaries, and of course valentines day
Why not ! i used to nick them from the park when i was a teen…mum loved the thought.

Crikey, there’s a hidden side theme emerging here:

There’s a large tribute on the M40 near High Wycombe; Do the police/highways use discretion for allowing people to stop, or is it a case of do it and hope you’re not caught?
I went past the M65 on the M6 recently and just before the junction is a bridge and there was a good 30 people on it, each with their own bouquet. Never seen so many flowers at a crash site. Suicide jumper most likely.
I’m guessing this is it. Driver arrested for causing death by dangerous driving. Failing to stop is one thing but how can a car driver be blamed for a suicide jump.
Only Trucknet CSI can get to the bottom of this one.
You could say that the flowers highlight the fact that some pretty crap driving occured.
