DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY PIC OF FLEETWOOD DOCK OF PANDORA
The only photos I have are the boat just about to leave the Fleetwood dock and one as it made a turn through the channel, you can just make out the P&O trailers.

Plenty of Pandoro pics here: paulanderson.pikfu.net/set1812747/
also…
One shipped back from Larne
Very early shot - this motor was in an accident in November 1976 and emerged with a new cab and in the new P&O corporate livery
Penwortham Gala, 1977 I think or perhaps 1978. Looking after it till the driver got back!
Pandoro’s biggest motor, seen after its sleeper conversion. Spot their other 6-wheel Atkinson tractor in the background too!
It sure looks a sorry site, all the ofices boarded up and the trailer park deserted. I remember when it was buzzing with traffic, what a shame it closed.

Is there nothing sailing out of there anymore , i remember going over to Irlande with my Dad from there with Sayers Transport from Newton-le-Willows a couple of times how things change.
I was there yesterday, it’s all been demolished now, hard to believe the queues of lorries that trailed down Dock Street and on to Copse Road before the new Road was built late 70s early 80s. I was there 17 years, 8 as traffic foreman, all those nights and afternoons in that building on Dock Street that no longer exists. I don’t miss the Atki Borderer though Mr 240!
I sailed to the isle of Man from Fleetwood in 1950, it was very busy in those far away days. There was even a railway station right along side the dock,
no P&O though back then.

You’d have loved it, John, if you’d never been spoiled with that 140 Scania first!
I’m astonished to hear the building has been demolished - it was almost brand new when I started there in 1976. We could never have imagined then that it would fade away like it has - about 2,200 trailers, 180 units and countless subbies on traction, and now all gone.
I used to run up to Fleetwood at night with trailers of straw for N.ireland and swop trailers in Fleetwood docks, there used to be a portacabin that did burgers and stuff till late, bloody lovely they were too , i think it was ran by a bloke called Tommy?

Of course! There used to be plenty of activity down at Wyre Dock in the late 70s when I was working in Fleetwood.
When all the fishing was still going on, there would be occasions when I could come out of the Pandoro office at the end of the day, and it looked as though there was drizzle on the car. But there wasn’t… it would be covered in droplets of fish oil that must have carried in the wind
Spot the other 6 wheeler? I should say so! the training vehicle, what was he called…mmm

I note that the Big Atki is shod on tubed 3 piece wheels,I would have thought that by the mid 70’s Pandoro would have been speccing Tubeless tyres!! Cheers Bewick.

You mean Reg!
And the motor lives on today too - In fact, I passed my test in it in 1981. And liked it so much, I bought it in 1993

I don’t know why this one was on 3-piece rims Dennis - the rest of the fleet was tubeless. In fact, Northern Ireland Trailers (as the precursor to Pandoro) had tubeless rims on new motors going back as far as Mk.1 Atkis c.1967, maybe even earlier:
This is me testing at PANDORO GVTS (Designated) Fleetwood about 14 years ago
PANDORO had 2 lads that worked with you Tom Hilton & John Morton, they were the ones that use to bring stuff to Kirkham GVTS before they got the lane at Fleetwood (they loaded the trailers for test if required and then brought them down the lane)
It is all gone now
AS mentioned in last post ITS ALL GONE NOW

Hi Wheeltapper, I used to work for Pandoro in Leighton Buzzard, used to have a great laugh with the Fleetwood Roamers, Mick Yates, Swivell, Tom Berry and the like. Stoke Roamers aswell, had some good times there.
