Flashing trucks in & thank you!

i allways flash people in even cars if they decide they are comeing back into lane 1 to let them know that they are dooing the right way of driving and allot say thankyou and it makes there day that they were flashed in by a truck,

but it is something i have noticed as well allot of truck drivers dont say thankyou ,maybe this is a new thing for drivers that think they dont need to say thankyou ,but the standard of driving in genral seems realy bad :unamused:

Talking about feeling unloved I flashed a fellow driver from my company yesterday and didnt get a flash back -.- he did apolagize in his defence later that day.

With regards to your post tho im a flasher and a thanker :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree that always flashing in is courteous.
However, a mate of mine has left our place and gone to a supermarket company and been told don’t flash them in because if they come across into your lane and catch your o/s because they cut in too early then you’ll be liable.
I still believe though that its a ‘truck drivers consideration for each other’ that should be used.

I don’t bother nowadays as most of the lorries I driver are limited to 50mph so I was constantly on the flash stick. Found it easier not to bother. I do if someone is creeping past me and seems unsure as to whether or not they are clear of my vehicle.
I also don’t take it personally if I don’t get flashed in, its’ no big deal anymore. Drivers do not look out for each other nor to they stand together so don’t feel guilty about it. Love the ones who take offence at you not flashing them in so they teach you a lesson by refusing to indicate when they pull back in to the left, really funny that one.

^^^^^ if I don’t get flashed in I don’t indicate to come in. You haven’t offended me, and I’m not attempting to teach you a lesson, it’s quite simply that you’ve shown me no courtesy so why should I show you any? If you can’t be bothered to lift the stick to flash then I sure as hell can’t be bothered to press my stick down to indicate.

It’s nice to be flashed and it’s courtious to waggle back, that’s about it really, let’s have a group hug and promise to help each other out more.
I just fancy a slice of toast now

Flashing originates back to old vehicles that were fitted with small side mirrors that vibrated and rattled, the rear view was not the best, so they all flashed in each other.
Have you noticed that farm vehicles and slow moving cranes now flash in lorries, but when they have flashed you in, you have gone past a long way, so no point in doing it.

I find Yorkshire is the most reliable place for the quick thank you flash. All be it I got a different flash from a bird as passenger in a white fiesta the other day I had to look 3 times I was in shock, shortly followed by dribble.

Indicating before changing lanes is in the highway code whereas flashing in anything that passes you isn’t.

I even flash cars pulling trailers and caravans in to be courteous and helpful

Not so courteous and helpful to new LGV drivers though are you?

Not the boys who passed yesterday and think they know it all no  I do have utmost respect for those who have done a year or two though.

hope that helps :unamused:

Ah good. I passed C Feb 2014 so its nice to know I have your respect.

You are yet to earn mine.

G6Bob:
I usually always flash in and rarely don’t get a thank you :sunglasses:

+1

Unnecessary indication will see you fail your advanced driving test. However I don’t foresee you having to worry about that.

Are we talking about the advanced driving test? no. It will see you fail your LGV test if you fail to indicate your intention to change position in the road though but as usual lets not let the facts get in the way of increasing your post count.

CleanFifthWheel:
It is easy to miss a flash.

Not with the wifes’ 36Fs it isn’t.

Just my opinion like, but I’ve always thought anybody who feels the need to take an advanced driving test is a bit insecure, I have passed my standard test I don’t need a piece of paper to hang on the khazi wall to tell me I’m a better driver than anybody else. (or not as the case may be)

As for getting a thank you? I couldn’t really give a flying ■■■■, as long as the over taking truck does not cut in on me too early,… now that really does press my buttons big style
:imp: (I know I’ve never mentioned that before on here :unamused:  )

It is easy to miss a flash, I usually do a quick flashy and then hold full beam until their indicator comes on, seems to work pretty well. I wish more people did that to me.

I drive a 1974 SIII Land Rover; top speed when new was officially 71mph. Top speed with overdrive fitted is now 70+mph, and that was downhill. And it rattled and pitched like the Big Dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach… :open_mouth:
Therefore I tend to stick to 50-55mph on motorways, so I get overtaken quite a lot by you big manly knights of the road. I always give them a quick flash of main beam, then leave main beam and spots on until they start indicating and pulling in. I’ve never yet had a driver fail to aknowledge me.
And on the rare occasions when I actually overtake a HGV, the driver usually flashes me to indicate that he’s happy for me to pull in in from of him; I’ll acknowledge him.

Sorry for coming across as sexist  (love … joking :unamused: ) but when you are driving your Land Rover I can guarantee the driver will have noticed you are female, add a pair of sawn off denim shorts into the equation ( sorry again  ) and you will always get attention from any trucker.

Btw I notice your username, are you one of my ex.girlfriends?
