Flagship Trucks

I have had 3 flagship trucks 1 volvo 700 when they were new and also 2 scania R730 v8.And im not an arse licker just get on with the job and dont cause damage.

I think you have to be the best driver somewhere to get one.

Anyway, I like AECs, so…Face, bothered?

■■■■■■■■■

Our standard spec is considered flagship so er yes every driver has one

I was a one man band so even though it may have been held together with bail twine and gaffer tape - they were still always the flagship of the fleet.

Trying to cut them off at the pass, before this thread turns into the usual slagging match!

Or…

You could have just kept yer gob shut.

A very worthwhile addition to the discussion

I’d quite like a flag ship truck to go with decent pay. But only if I wasn’t the only one who had one. A man who has the only flag ship would suffer under this misfortune- all the other drivers looking at you as if you’re wondering about unaware your todger is hanging out. The boss looking at you to see if you’ve scratched it.

I’d like a flagship if part of a number at the firm to blend in, other than that a nice “next model down” would be very nice. As long as it’s not the Dennis R144.

Used to be that next in line got the newest truck regardless, at our place the only two eight wheelers with sleeper cabs went to drivers who never nighted out as they were due a new lorry and those drivers who did night out occasionally still slept across the seats.

I agree with this, I recall Switchlogic saying somewhere that when he got the volvo 750 at Virginia some drivers stopped talking to him/blanked him

750 as opposed to what? 650? I thought Irish hauliers used a lot of FH16s and V8s.

That used to be how it was at one time, can see both sides of the coin, not good if the old hand smoked like a chimney and you didn’t when the time came for hand me downs.

Where i am you get issued with a vehicle when you start, it might be 3 months old it might be 4 years old, it will be replaced at 5 whatever, thats if your shift pattern rates an issued vehicle, but the downside others will use it when you are not on shift which is often because its a 364 day/night operation and my shift pattern averages less than a 4 day week.
Again good and bad points, if you look after your kit, like i do, then its frustrating when you find one of the couldn’t care a toss bods has had it, but then no job is perfect.

Would i want a flagship? no not really, wouldn’t want a flash motor festooned in BHP badges or lights but each to their own, some people like that sort of thing and good luck to them if they enjoy it, i’d prefer a proper big enough for the job engine and manual gearbox and a day cab would be fine if it had windows all round for easy blind siding, an old school gearbox would be useful too cos not many would want to use it :bulb: and it would at least put some pleasure back into driving.
Will i get what i want when mines changed, not a hope in hell…

I don’t think the top line motors necessarily come festooned in lights and badges. Perhaps the same badge count as a standard, just a different number. I don’t care for the image, I do like the working environment, particularly the decent seats on top range. Never been one for engine mist in the cab and rattling along with my balls banging together like marbles in a bag if I could get away with it.

As opposed to R500’s at the time. It was the first flagship Virginia ever had. And some drivers still wouldn’t talk or wave to me on the road right up until I stopped driving it.

Now be honest. I like your vids, but small town Ireland can be a funny superstitious place. Do you reckon that’s because you drove that black Volvo or was it because you were locally known as that slightly odd bloke who talks to a big plastic Lego head?

Pure witchcraft over there. Surprised you weren’t chucked in the Liffey to see if you floated.

Usually given to those who do the work keep the vehicle clean and damage free and don’t have a whingeing complex, as a general rule.

I thinks its good idea and if I ran trucks I would probably have one could if I afford it.

We have a very smart 750 Volvo that works out of my depot in Avonmouth, the driver walks around like he owns the place.

Who can blame him, being trusted to drive such a prestigious vehicle. He clearly can’t be associating with you herbets. I imagine it’s a sort of ■■■■ swagger he does
