Who on here has had one? Who are they given to? Longest serving drivers or best behaved? People who will pimp them up out of there own pocket?
I’ve had two. Given to me because quite frankly I am Europe’s best lorry driver and in a league of my own…
Poor wooden-headed saps who spend all Saturday up the yard with a tin of Peek.
Or taking a peek up the rusty tin situated within the bosses undies
I can see a fight coming on here Harry…
I bet all the usual characters will comment on this thread. The ones who prefer old bangers, who’d prefer to drive a 1962 AEC to a modern lorry, the ones who enjoy telling us over and over and over how little they clean their truck
So I’d say - Muckaway, Juddian, possibly Carryout, Winseer, etc etc
All will also point out that drivers in flagship trucks are compensating for small danglies, despite the fact that the drivers of these trucks didn’t order them, didn’t buy them and had no say in what truck was ordered
When I left my last job, I was offered the new flagship actros they had coming if I changed my mind and stayed. Told him I’d have much preferred a pay rise but apparently wages were non negotiable.
I had almost 9 yrs service and looked after any truck I was given, so I’d like to think that’s another reason I was considered for the flagship truck though.[emoji41]

It’s simple. They will be given to the driver who is going to look after it the best, and not park it under any low bridges.
Why would a gaffer spend extra dough on a flagship and give it to the bloke who doesn’t know the difference between a truck wash and rain?

I find getting pictures of the Boss in a compromising position with the lady from Accounts helps get the best truck.
I’m also proud to say I have the best truck on the fleet, but then we do only have one truck.
Back in the day I worked for a company which ran Volvo F12s but had a “flagship F16” although this was simply an F12 which the driver had bought F16 badges for out of his own pocket.
Never worked for a company that has had a Flagship truck, but one I worked for had a Magnum on Demo, this was hogged by one of the drivers and caused so many childish squabbles the boss decided to make sure everything was the same and fleet spec, but even that didn’t solve the petty rivalry when new trucks were going on the fleet.

Straight on the defensive

If I bought a flagship truck for my own company, i’d allocate it to the driver I thought represents the company the best in front of customers. If I had several candidates, it’d go to the one who’d been there the longest.
Personally, I don’t see the point of flagship trucks. If you make sure your whole fleet looks nice you’ll get noticed anyway.

Trying to cut them off at the pass, before this thread turns into the usual slagging match!
Aside from the owners son type thing etc its pretty much been the longest serving that get the newest or flagship trucks where I’ve worked. Although i’d expect that type of thing to go out the window at a non-family type firm or a 24/7 distribution business etc, or a place with high staff turnover etc.

Or the ones who will say “Id drive the oldest scrap heap for more money”
Or who will comment on the fancy wagons being the fault of drivers willing to work for minimum wage, and will sacrifice a bigger hourly rate, to drive them.

Ah yes, the old good trucks = poor pay chestnut.

In some cases nobody - they’re kept as showpieces and not used on regular work, as is the case with some of those featured in the magazines (like the Malcolm T-cab Scania with the lions on the back). Personally, I don’t think I’ve worked for a company which has one.
