The day went OK - despite getting stuck for 90 mins on the A1 at Retford as we hit the traffic just after that truck had gone over on the southbound carriageway! Had to wait until the cops eventually got those of us who were stuck after the exit slip but before the entry slip turned around and off the A1 back up the entry slip. Detour through Retford and back on at Markham Moor, but it put us behind a fair bit so we were later back to the yard than we’d hoped.
Induction was OK, was just shown the loading process (used tyre collection) and paperwork etc, then drove back to base. The work is hard - dirty, wet and all handball - but cos of the size of the area they cover I reckon it’s a good chance to get some distance under my belt at Class 2. There doesn’t really seem to be that much pressure to it either - probably less so than multi-drop cos you can only fit so many tyres in, and when it’s full you head back home!
Waiting to hear back from the boss but if there’s a job offered I’ll take it - everyone has to start somewhere!
I will do. Seems like a decent bunch of lads, mostly relatively new drivers so that’s good. A job’s a job, and it’s all valuable experience. Still waiting to hear back, guess it be Monday now
Update: Finally spoke to site manager today as she’s been working away at another site in Birmingham a lot, and she wants me to go in and meet her and have a chat on Thursday. Fingers crossed it’ll be good news. Not enjoying being in limbo at all, just want to know one way or the other!!
It’s not worth a photo mate - rental iveco 10-tonner at the moment! Hoping to get into one of the volvos before too long though!
Day one went ok, despite worries about working tacho out and such like! Think I managed it ok though. Job is hard physical work, but valuable experience and not under any pressure really. Did Newton aycliffe, Darlington and Leyburn today, and got leeds first thing tomorrow and probably another local in the afternoon.
Three days in and I get my own motor tomorrow, 12 tonne 240bhp Volvo FE I think! Just got used to the auto box on the rental iveco and now I’m gonna have to remember to change gear!

Also, had a call out of the blue from Aspray at Castleford offering me a 7.5 tonne multi drop job - sent them an email when I’d just passed but never heard anything back. If anyone in the area has just passed it might be worth giving them a call
