First steps...

Went for my medical this morning, passed with flying colours as expected

I’ll have to wait a week or two to send for my provisional C/C+E entitlement as I’m in the process of moving house so wanted to get my licence back with the new address on first so I don’t confuse the DVLA!

Next job is to to get myself the theory test books and aim to get those passed in the next month or so, but then it looks like I’m going to be held up doing my driving training as I don’t have any holidays left for this year so will have to wait until January at least. :frowning:

Not exactly happy about learning to drive HGVs in winter, but I figure it’ll be good experience and I can’t think of another way around the problem of getting 4/5 days off work in a row to do the training and test…

Anyway, I’ll try to remember to keep things updated as I go along!

I learnt in the evenings.

There are still a few weeks left before weather gets abysmal so you could get a quick turnaround and your full licence through the door without the envelope covered in wet snow

Good luck! I’m in the same position. Got my medical soon. But no holidays left for the year and can’t have any holidays in December so I’m going to wait for January.

What does the medical include? I’m concerned I may not pass!

I thought about going in the mornings as I mostly start work at 1pm now, but not sure I’ll have enough time to get to the driving school, have a lesson, then get back home and to work.
Will see how it plays out once I get my theory out of the way, it might be doable!

We’re not allowed time off in December either, so we’re in the same boat!

Medical was a doddle for me as I’ve never had any health problems and my eyes are spot on. It’s a basic check-up - height, weight, do you smoke/drink, read the eye chart, check your blood pressure, have a listen to your breathing, and check your balance and reflexes sort of thing

My license came through the door covered in snow haha. My actual test was in snow too, mega bad conditions! Very surprised it wasn’t cancelled.

They only cancel if it’s deemed dangerous or if they can’t see the lines to conduct reversing exercise.

You can train at weekends/evenings

Done my training in winter

Test was cancelled ( well several times ) as snow was that bad

UPDATE

Been a bit of a delay in getting any further with this in the past month due to moving house, trying to revise, sending licence off to DVLA (twice), going on holiday, trying to revise some more, and trying to sort out a second house move …BUT… I’ve gone and booked my two theory tests for the first week of November today so I’m going to cram some more revision in next week and hopefully I’ll be over the first hurdle soon

I’ve done some of the online practice multiple choice tests and regularly getting in the high 40s, and think my general knowledge of the theory test book is pretty good now, but I’m a bit concerned by the HP test. I’ve narrowly failed a couple of the online practice tests and read a couple of threads on here recently about people failing when they didn’t expect to, so I’m gonna have to really focus on making sure I don’t mess that up!

Remember that the real test is 100 questions so if you do get in the high 40’s you will fail sorry cant remember the pass score but think it is about 67

Sorry, I meant high 40s out of 50 on the practice tests.

Pass mark is 85 out of 100 I think

Passed my multiple choice test this morning with 97 out of 100, so very happy with that.

Found the test to be pretty easy to be honest, had all 100 questions answered inside 15 minutes with only a handful flagged for review. Of those, there was only about four I wasn’t sure of the answers to so I pretty much got the result I expected.

Hazard perception test on Thursday morning - now THAT is more of a worry! :frowning:

Passed my HPT this morning with 82 out of 100!!

Scored 5 points on 8 clips, 4 points on 6 clips and 3 points on 4 clips, then got 6 points on the double hazard clip

With my house move done and dusted, and Christmas now behind us, I’ve got an assessment drive booked for Friday morning with a view to getting my Class C passed as soon as possible (probably late Jan/early Feb depending on how my shifts fall at work). Then need to save up/borrow the cash to get C+E done ASAP after that while I’m still in the right frame of mind for training. Excited about what’s to come!

As you have moved house, I assume you have changed your licence address.

yeah, all sorted

Cheers - really looking forward to the challenge(r) and giving myself a goal to aim for!
