First ever manual entry...and cocked it

Yep I’m a modern trucker at last done my first manual entry. :sunglasses: :smiley:

Normally don’t bother my arse, but circumstances prevailed where I could have…lost money! :open_mouth:

So…started 1130 did not get my truck back until 1600, was then warned by a fellow driver that the ■■■■ s maybe would not pay me if no record of lost 4 and half hours.
Going on the theory they do not need any excuses not to part with cash, I lost my ‘Manual entry virginity’ :sunglasses: :laughing: …and ■■■■ ed it up. :cry:

Done everything right (or thought I had) …even with help from driver trainer!

My last shift was last Sunday, where I did 3 hours driving before parking up for weekly rest, thing is those 3 hours driving showed up on my dash readout as 3 hours done on first day (yesterday).
Ok, so I only went on to do another 3 hours driving total (after a break) so at end of day it was showing a total of 6 hours for that day. :neutral_face:

Now tbh I ain’t too bothered, but just out of curiousity, and for arguments sake, if I had done a legal 9 hours drive yesterday, it would have shown my driving total of 12 hours.

I’m totally devastated and have not slept all night… :unamused: :laughing: , but can anybody explain what I did wrong, just in case the unlikely event comes up again where I need to make another manual ■■■■ entry. :imp:

As for where you went wrong with yer manual entry, I have no idea because ‘frankly my dear, I don’t give a ■■■■’. :smiley:

Difficult to say without seeing a printout, but I think you’ve got an even bigger “Oops” moment to come when your card is downloaded, as from what you say I think you may have recorded “Other Work” (or maybe POA) right through your Weekly Rest…

TBF i haven’t a bloody clue what you’ve done there and i do a manual every day :blush: , you go into automode doing the entry when you have the same motor all the time.
The only tacho i can’t get me head around is the old style Stoneridge, much as i can manage to get me bloody card out of one without hammer and chisel :unamused:

Um just a guess did you set the date right for the time somebody borrowed your truck

It could’ve been a lot worse, you could’ve inadvertently given yourself an infringement when screwing up the manual entry, and recorded insufficient daily rest.

I think that’s exactly what he has done, TBH…

Describing how to do it is the easy part , as Juddian says doing them on a regular basis they become second nature the problem is they are so easy too mess up .
In my last job I did them all the time as I did not always get straight into the truck , new year new job and card goes in when start and comes out when finish but still do a manual entry check at the start to make sure have not put wrong mode in when ejecting card .

I daresay the bit where you cocked up was when, during the manual entry (oo-err) the top line of the display was showing the time/date that you ejected your card and the bottom line was showing the current time/date. You changed the time on the bottom line to show the actual time you started the shift then changed the mode to show “Other Work” because you assumed (incorrectly) that was the right thing to do (“1130 - yeah, that’s the time I started work so I’ll change it to crossed hammers” - failing to recognise that the unit was asking you to account for what you were doing between the time shown on the top line and the time shown on the bottom line, not what you started doing at the time shown on the bottom line). Classic newbie mistake, I’m afraid :wink:

I think you should do the honourable thing, 1, resign 2, forfeit your pay in lieu and 3, hand your licence back to the DVLA/DVSA or whoever they are called next week. you really are not fit or professional to drive a truck anymore… shame on you.!!!

Newer tachos are easier I think. First they show you what time your card was ejected. Ok. Then they show you the current time (which you can turn back) and whatever mode you want. Ok. Then repeat step two until you reach the current time. Prevents what robroy did from happening I think.

Saw the post heading and poster and got the subject matter totally wrong :smiley:

Last time i messed about with manual entries put me card in at 0600 but started work 0545 so thought id give it a bash. Well and truly cocked it up. Set it to other work from midnight [emoji23]
