First day tomorrow, an I'm Terrified

Good Luck !
What a great day…Take your time, don’t be afraid to ask ! you don’t have to try to prove anything, drive carefully, don’t forget your checks, look in your mirrors often and enjoy the road. You are your own boss behind the wheel.
Best regards
GS.
P.S. I was 21 when I passed my Class 1 and never looked back. Subbing for Astran with my own truck and trailer paid for by the time I was 25 yrs old.

Early doors yet, BUT we shall see how the week goes, be ALOT more on me tomorrow so I’m praying hard…

Sadly I really don’t think I’m gonna be able to go alone by end of week, so management either need to respect the safeguards in place, or I’m off.

Be a shame to go, as some good chaps there but it sadly really does seem no one stays with Stobarts, and it’s sad to me, but if they won’t play/adhere to their own policy’s and safeguarding then I won’t risk anyone else or me just coz they want work done, as I have, THANKS to this forum been given some very promising leads to other firms who will take me on and give me patience to be safe, last thing I want to do with low confidence/anxiety is risk being rushed just for a job, that will not happening, I won’t hurt no-one regardless.

But… We pray on hey…

As said above by end of week hopefully I get home, and comatose for a day [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

And fear not my good sirs, 7 lucky fans will get a new green shirt should me ■■■■ hit the floor Friday, got a couple nice coats too for the weather adverse among us if it helps… [emoji6][emoji38]

Come Friday week you will look back at this thread and laugh. If you was not good enough
to be let out by yourself you would not have passed your test.

Cheers bud [emoji41][emoji41]

Well technically I’ve a mentor with me for the week(I HOPE!!) so come Friday, that to me is my D-day.

If I can’t manage alone after that, then I have to be realistic and honest with myself for the sake of others and decide if I’m really meant to drive or not.

Sadly this poxy anxiety really isn’t helping, and as said above I won’t risk anyone else for the sake of a wage or arrogant pride, that’s just not the cloth I come from.

Lords prayer, X12 a day for the next 4 is all I can do [emoji53]

Ask Stabrots if you can have Dozy as your mentor. It will give you a whole new outlook on life

At least you admitted you’re nervous, I still asked for help whilst reversing when I was unsure. Not every driver out there is a tool. Enjoy it, I miss it rotten!

Same here I often find myself saying ‘‘Can you just watch me back out of here mate’’ no shame in it at all to ask for guidance, and it prevents potential balls ups.
I also jump out of the cab to watch others in reversing…it’s what we ALL did all the time once over.

+1 “Pride before a fall” and all that.

OP, Easy to say, but you maybe do need to be a bit more confident in yourself You did pass your test. Just realise that if you are unsure, then get out and check or ask again etc, no shame in that. Before you know it you’ll be doing a particular job a second or third time, confident you know that route, how that entrance appears, which bay you’ll be on etc
Relax and enjoy it.

I dont I just sit there with phone waiting for something to happen.

Not really. But there are some that do.

I’d rather wear a Sunderland shirt.
(Maybe that’s a bit hasty on reflection)

You’d be brave walking through the Toon with that.

Ken.

Yes… get out and check if unsure. For example i was delivering to a farm this morning. A tight left from a narrow farm road into another narrow farm road. Dark… raining… would of took the wall out if I didn’t get out and check as i was unsure exactly how close i was to it. So just reverse back out and took a wider swing

Just get to it, as soon as you get behind the wheel you’ll focus more on the road and less on your fears, i was the same when i first started but after 15 mins of driving it just felt natural.

Go at your own pace, ■■■■ the idiots riding your arse if you wanna go slower, go slower.

Ask, ask and ask more until you know what you’re doing on any site, no one wants some random truck driving in circles in their yard.

Limits are limits, not targets. don’t be aiming for 4.5hrs drive each driving period and if you want a break, take a break.

YOU are the one behind the wheel of a truck that could easily kill several people, not those office bods; so if you think you can’t do something, don’t do it.

And last but not least, it’s your license and your livelihood, don’t let some ■■■■ in an office put them at risk.

Cheers again all, all the moral/banter his genuinely appreciated [emoji41][emoji41]

Day two done…

We’re alive, Londons still flowing so alls good… Ish [emoji38]

Will report back Friday, and announce the winners of the Stobart goodies, stay tuned [emoji38][emoji38]

Not gonna lie, I’m still [zb] it but I pray they will maybe give me another week, if not we’ll I gave it a shot and I’ve some nice spare shirts I will post out to those on here who have been so kind to me as a little way of thanks… [emoji8][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

Much as I think you’ll be OK, if it does come to giving away Stobart shirts they’ll be quite a queue on here, but the first one must be for Robroy, I know he’ll treasure it. [emoji38]

Nah lol only having a laugh, besides I don’t own the uniform sooooo…
that leads me to answer your million dollar question.

Sadly tomorrow all I can say for now is, it’s been emotional, I’d love it to continue but forces outside my control are at work, hence the old green dream my be returning to its rightful keepers, and those who want to get some apparels will have to take a job with them [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

Or ebay mooch it… [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]
