only blakemores still going from the list
Blimey!! It’s a sobering thought to think I spent 22 years of my life running alongside most of those, doing little else five and a half days, and often nights a week, driving, loading, chasing work, changing wheels. Then Saturday afternoons and most Sundays cobbling 'em together ready for the next week. Now they are all gone, including me! Fast forward to today, you have to ask…and for what? If it wasn’t for us on the forum nobody would know we had been there.
Come on chaps, cheer me up, get posting.
Do any of you blokes remember Alan Duckett, he was from the Walsall Willenhall area, he moved up this way about thirty years ago. Alan had a couple of artics an odd tipper or so, also had scrapyards, he moved after the steel strike when everything around that area took a hit.
Cheers Dave.

Wagsie.: Squires? I don’t know about the Hargreaves bit did They buy them out? There was the ones I knew, had blue motors, brothers Neil & Cedric, were in a little yard over a humpback bridge at the back of Bloxwich, then moved to new yard next to big foundry they did work for. Then there was another one had green wagons, just off M54, on the old Hilton Main Pit, I think it was, he used to run Bathgate up and back, so I was told. Can you remember a chap, used to run a couple of Roman four wheel flats out of Cheslyn Hay, can’t recall his name though.
Hiya BigG-Unit! Well Hargreaves brought out the squire’s with the dark blue motors that you know which moved from the little yard by the hump back bridge. And Squire’s with the green trucks by the Truck stop on the M54.Are still going I think…But the squire’s I’m on about Have got light blue ERF’s And are in a little yard next to the pinfold Bloxwich, Opposite the old swimming baths…Yeah I do remember the couple of roman flats but as you name escape’s me, but I’ll try and find out m8… By the way What was your company called? and what motors was you running… Well Hope that helps you m8. And we’ll chat soon…
All the best …Wagsie…
P.S. Thanks for The PM really cheered me up M8…
what about that robbing git mark watts.
remember used to be near the hollies.
git still owes me money dont think i will ever see that
Blimey!! r s : Who’s he then? can’t say I 've heard of him, but maybe it’s just as well. I had my fair share of non payers over the years, so much so it became sort of the norm. Some were genuine cases where things had gone wrong or they were caught in a knock on effect, but some seemed to be organised, go bump one day and carry on the next in a new name. Yeah, they sure can cause you a lot of heartache, but I think in the end you have to let it go.
wagsie, : I wasn’t much of a company really, very third division, probably these non payers didn’t help, as I sort of rubbed along, pay as I go style, only buying motors I could afford. I only got into transport 'cos I had a van and someone asked if I could take some stuff for him to B.L. Longbridge and it sort of grew from there. I got a couple of transit’s, then somebody wanted something bigger, got a four tonner, bigger still and so on. Ran some Commers, Ford D series, Leylands, a Bedford, nothing flash, though I did have a 1617 Merc and a 2100 Daf amongst them towards the end. Don’t know if I can claim to be a ‘firm around Walsall’ either, although I started close to there, then had about 5 years in Birmingham, a couple in Bloxwich and finally 13 years in Cannock/Chasetown area.
Oh, the chap with the Romans, think it was Les …somebody, not sure though!!

I’m thinking it maybe was a bit latter than that, 'cos I don’t recall 'em and I packed up mid '9o’s. Talking of Norton Canes, remember the Aliminium works there, I used to do a job for Squires (dark blue motors) to the village of Belbroughton as you couldn’t get an artic into the place in the village. Squire’s were always good to me when I wanted any artic work doing. They would drop a trailer anywhere for a few days to load, take it and leave it to be tipped and pick it up, sometimes a week latter, and never charged me any extra, and it wasn’t just local work. I sometimes would worry that they would forget my little jobs halfway through, but they were always spot on.
Hi Big G unit has asked me to put these on this thread…no problem mate.
Couldnt see the Kendricks Foden over the last few pages of the scrapbook Big G so put a new one on,if you find what page its on the let me know…ok
