Bit late, but found this on internet and its got Walsall depot on front?

cheers Pete,my dad drove an ERF 8 wheeler (same style cab as your skip wagon)for Durhams and on shool holidays i would go with him,and i recall going on more than one occasion to the Walsall depot, and ive been to Walsall many a time under my own steam and often wondered where it was as everything has changed now.

I don’t know were the yard was Joe, but I will ask for you, Cheer’s Pete

I live and work in Walsall. Interesting seeing pics of all these old trucks especially with Walsall staffs written on them why is that then? As technically we don’t fall under Staffordshire

Old county borders, Wolverhampton,Walsall was Staffordshire and Rowley Regis was in Worcestershire as I think Birmingham was,

One for Steelboy FL10! Yard not far from Hargreaves,

Don’t know if this has been done before, If not I can’t think why not, the West Midlands threads seem a bit thin on the ground! I’ll start it off with J. Hayward & Sons (Walsall) Ltd. I did a bit of Transit work for them in the '70s when I first started my little company. Anyone remember Harry, sons Brendan & Trevor, and daughter Pauline (I think) in the office. Not to mention Ray Mason (Traffic) and the night yard man who I only knew as Cod!
Come on then lads, this should run for a bit, and we might even get Waggsie back on here.

Horice kendricks in green lane
Oscar johnsons in portland street opposite haywards yard
C j sharman haulage northcote street
S jones of aldridge
Pickards of chapel street pelsall
remember Mckecknie metals in aldridge when they ran them six wheeler bedford km’s
Savilles tankers
Sansom transport. harden road ,leamore
Squires.fryers road,bloxwich
A f blakemores started in blloxwich lane with them old leyland boxers and mastiffs
Hewitt international
Guymers.station road rushall
let me sleep on it and i’ll have a few more

curnock,: Well done mate, I knew I could rely on you.
Yeah, used to do a bit for Carl, down between the houses! and knew Neil and Cedric Squires quite well. They turned that outfit round didn’t they! Remember Layton & Steele? I was really surprised when they went bump. :astonished: Both Sid & Des went on for Neil then, in the yard. Neil’s lad Ian (I.I. R.C.) had just started running the office when I packed up.

i worked for sharman from 89-92.he was a nice bloke, unlike his son god he loved an agument :imp:

In the late 60s there used to be a company called Hickinbottoms on Rolling Mill Street,Walsall.I used to backload off them out of District Iron and Steel down Brasshouse Lane near the Hawthorns on the A41 West Brom, usually for Sheffield,Leeds or Dewsbury.

this was my wagon when i drove for sharman, was a decent motor.i took this pic in burntwood after sharman had packed it all in and sold his fleet

heads transport from short heath bloxwich, looks like it was taken in imi copper at darlaston

yours truly in jones’s yard

A bit underpowered by todays standards, but one of my favourite wagons back then.

Does anyone have any of Zinc Alloys wagons, pale blue Bedford TK dropsiders. They were on the Willenhall Rd heading out of Wolverhampton.

Ah! I remember those Kendrick Fodens and the later ones with the square cab,( think Bubs had one on the Scrapbook thread a short while ago) Always looked so big cutting through the streets of Walsall. My memory is fading a bit but would I be right in describing there colour as Cherry Red?

found this one in front of walsall power station !,remember that the power station, now occupied by sainsbury’s and the retail park !. :frowning: memories ay

there was one doing the preservation scene but not seen it lately anyone seen it ?

Yeah!! that’s just how I remembered it, glad I haven’t lost it all together. Wonderful pic curnock, and a motor that needs to be kept I reckon. :sunglasses: I was looking at your list of firms and was wondering how many, if any, were still running. :frowning:
