Some people say about not alowed to use gas camping cooker in cab as there made to sign a contract not too or something. Is this currect ?.

Appreciate your posts people

If you’ve got a working microwave in the truck then ok. If not, then it’s a gas stove job just keep it hidden. And be careful with it.

I’m not 100% what’s init pal, I’d just take a bag with all stuff in anyway
Thanks

DrivingMissDaisy:
Two job offers■■? You got family in the business?

Haha my dad knows the owners of a few companies that have offered me a chance. The scrap one have said to come straight down when my licence comes back  & the grab one I rang a day before I passed to get some work ready lol they rang 2 days later.
Also my dads cousin owns a subcontract car transporter business for ECM ‘unfortunately I need 2 years!’ Lol
Oh and my uncle has worked for volvo plant for past 30 years

Well that hasn’t done you any harm, has it?

I need to work though been sat at home 2 months after doing class 1 and 2 and I don’t know how people do it on benefits! I couldn’t!!

Well Done Fella

Go for it, if it doesn’t work out , at least you tried

Ask as much as you like, there’s no such thing as a stupid question…

I use a gas stove, the cartridge type… No problem using it in the cab where I work…just disengage the cannister when its not in use…

Thanks Kate, gonna have a think as I have potential day work
Yeah kinda guessed as much just personally think I’d feel abit of an idiot if I asked a simply question to someone with experience but something that would be completely oblivious to me but got a lot to learn!

And I just seen on here that someone had to sign a contract not to use a stove in cab because someone had set there can alight before lol! But noted if I use one will make sure it’s safe!

go for it mat ,the sweaty palms and bum clentching will soon go,keep quiet and listen to advice off older drivers and it will come m8,everybodys got to learn, crack on

Good luck with the job ( you’ve got the contacts which is perfect :sunglasses: ).

I say take the job.
The only thing I can see being a problem is the stereotypical lifestyles of an 18yr old and the lifestyle of a tramper, these have surely got to be the most extreme opposite ends of the spectrum

Apologies in advance if I’m missing the bleeding obvious, but when was the age restriction for driving class 1 trucks (or class 2 for that matter) reduced to 18■■?

I can’t find anything on the DSA or DVLA websites that suggest that you have to be anything but 21 or over to drive HGV’s for hire or reward.

Totally confused . . . . .

I don’t know exactly when, but here’s a government link. gov.uk/vehicles-you-can-drive

Cat C > 18-20 > See section about CPC.

Driving large vehicles or lorries at 18
In some cases you can drive large vehicles and lorries when you’re 18. See the guide to Driver CPC for more information.

Hi DJC,
Yes. I looked at both of these and still couldn’t get any clarification. The first thing it says is:-

You can’t normally drive large vehicles and lorries (category C) until you’re 21.
You’ll also first need a full car licence, and will then need to apply for provisional category C entitlement then take the category C test.

Note that it says “You can’t NORMALLY drive . . until you’re 21” and “In some cases . . when you’re 18”. This would suggest to me that there are likely to be significant restrictions and/or exceptional circumstances to being allowed to drive Class 1/2 vehicles at 18 i.e. unlikely that you would be allowed to do a NORMAL HGV job like the one the OP is talking about.

The government has a funny way with words. What it basically states is you can’t hold a HGV license between 18-20 without either studying for or holding the DCPC whereas you don’t need any CPC over the age of 20.

As far as I’m aware there arnt any restrictions what so ever to driving, I can jump in a truck tomorrow providing insurance ect and haul a turbine tower or 80ton crusher. My licence is the same as someones that’s been driving c+e for 30+ years.
Don’t really think some young lads should be labeled as incapable of driving such a vihicle because of the other jobless benifit sponging majority that drive round like idiots in cars that don’t care and give the minority the bad name of not being able to do a job because of the reputation.
Time and place to drive like an idiot and it’s not in a 44t truck on a public highway.

But back to the question the hire and reward part is if you don’t have a cpc card ‘witch I do’ if say like I do race quads and drive a race truck to the tracks.
To drive for profit you need to do the module 2 & 4 like all of drivers will need to do before September this year.
Think to be honest it’s just a way of making money the cpc in my opinion but got to be done.

My first and current job in this industry is brick blocks etc with a brick grab. I’m only 22 and not had my license a year. We are nighting out 2-3 times a week. My boss offered me the job and was very understanding that it would take around about 3 months to get fully upto speed with the road network the lorry and the brick crane and to be fair to him he was nearly spot on 3 months and I was doing the same amount of work as the old hands. Building sites Can be very easy to deliver to and also the biggest pain in the arse. If a builder tells you it’s hard ground, don’t take his word for it, same as “we’ve had bigger” in their driver. End of the day all there bothered about is limiting any handball they need to do. I’m not saying it’s the best job in the world and it certainly isn’t the easiest but in real world experience it’s brilliant.

If I can help with anything just pm me

Hi matmat. If you race quads stick a pic up on the ‘‘hobbys’’ site on the Bullys bar forum as i also race a quad and would be interested how it works in the UK.Mike

I’d be curious to see the insurance quote for this, considering most insurance co’s are now putting prohibitive premiums on any new LGV driver (even those over 25) and some now insist on LGV drivers having at least 2 years experience and can prove that they’ve been driving LGV’s for at least 160 days in the last two years. As is now commonplace in jobs advertised with Driving Agencies in particular. I have made a few enquiries to these Driving Agencies and they all blame the insurance co’s for this situation and say they are now “desparate for drivers” but say they can’t take on any driver who can’t provide them with documented proof of recent driving experience.
