Finally done the first one

well finally done my first 7 hrs of the driver cpc, now i have been sceptical about it from the word go, but i went in today with an open mind. it was health and safety and fuel efficency and i am sorry all my fears came true. it was a complete waste of 7 hrs of my life and leaving my wallet a lot lighter, at least the other 7 guys were a good laugh and the time went fairly quickly, but there was nothing at all in the day that i didn’t already know, and put into practise every day of my working life!!! is this what this job has come too :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

yes

glad to help

Same experience here, how to get in and out of my cab amoung other such crap ffs, total waste of time and money, managed to do it for 13yrs without that bs course, it’s getting worse all the time is what worries me tho.

Not looking forward to doing mine, how much did it set you back if you don’t mind me asking?

I’ve done MPQC (was Epic skills card) and Driver Hours/Driver Welfare. The driver welfare one is a huge waste of time; If you want to be lectured on how many calories are in a Big Mac etc you’ll love this. For everyone else it’s a cure for insomnia. I had to endure the dangers of smoking…why when I’ve never smoked ffs? Guessing the number of units in a pint of beer is another part of it, I’ve never been concerned with units as I only drink about a pint a week but this is apparently all part of “getting qualified and staying qualified” as the bloody slogan says.
The MPQC Skills card is a load of crap that tells you such gems of information such as it’s dangerous to tip under power cables, and there’s also an old film from the dying days of Readymix Concrete featuring Penny “I drove a rally car…whoopie shi* Mallory” telling drivers in her own irritating way how not to squash cyclists.

Just wait till you do the “daily checks” one, you’l love it!! :unamused: :imp:
I had my second 7hr spell week before last, another 7hrs of my life il never get back!
A total load of crap for f all. Glad im not paying for it.

it was only 30 quid boss paid rest, but i am a tight git so hey ho :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Can you ‘fail’ it?

Brothers’ mate went for his, and he said he failed his.

But it sounded more like he failed his HGV theory… for the THIRD time! :unamused:

if he is a new driver there is a exam he has to do before he can start driving then he has to do the 35 hrs cpc in the next 5 yrs, but for drivers with grandfather rights we just have to turn up and that is it, you can go to sleep if you want, it is just purely attendance only thing. you can’t fail as there is no test :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:

I been asking round as I have grandfather rights as a newbie, the price range from as cheap as 65 anything upto 100 for 7 hours.

I am informed my next 7 hrs of boredom is defensive? driving in a VAN ! ffs! :imp: :imp:

thank god I’m not paying for this crap !

I once went to Paris and had a collection.
When i went to the Forwarders Warehouse a Lad came and i had to open the Trailer as that he could check how its loaded before going to the Ramp.
It was a Load of 2 Roll Rubberband,2.4 Meter in Diameter and 2 Meter high.
I loaded it flat which he didnt like the Steel middle,as its not stable, but as its Rubber it were not stable if it would stay.
No,well.I shall not have loaded as its not in a Coffin-Frame,made from Wood or Metal.
I told him dont worry,im a good Driver. That i shall not have said either :exclamation:
Now i got to listen 3 Hour about Dynamic,Movements,Traffic,Physic and Law,and i dont know what more.During that Time we walked all the Warehouse inside along checking the loading. Then i went to the Ramp the Staff secured the 2 Rolls and loaded full.
10 hour we were together.I dont know everything now,but i know when its wrong.
He said “I cant train you today, but i can make you aware of danger occurring from load and Law.
My Comment:
I cant pay him for that knowledge i gained that Day,and,if you get the chance to get a similar Session then use it!”

We found it quite fun, asking searching questions to which the geezer had no answers was amusing.

He came out with a couple of gems that we didn’t know though, seeing as he’s a DSA approved instructor i assume he’s right…
drivers under instruction or test no longer have to perform a controlled emeregency stop
************************************ no longer have to to prove they can go up and down through all the gears
************************************ are now apparently taught eurosafe driving (which is anything but), brakes to slow, gears to go, so no need to worry about your pension if you live at the bottom of steep A road hill in the peaks or dales, you won’t be collecting it… :open_mouth:
I wonder why all makers still fit those redundant retarders or engine/exhaust brakes then, seems little point if you approach every junction in top gear only using the footbrake.

Is it me?

You working for DHL and talking about the Smith System? I thought that was the best one so far. You may be pleasantly surprised. As you say it’s something for nothing.

I’m taking the plunge at the end of next month, and doing it all in one week :open_mouth: :open_mouth: at the end of next month. Its actually with one of the trainers who post on this forum, costing just shy of £350.

I’m taking my first 7 hours tomorrow, as it happens, thought I’d get it out of the way while things were slack. It’s on tacho, driver’s hours & suchlike so hopefully might be of slightly more interest, just be interesting to see if any arguments ensue. Costing me £50, which was the cheapest I could find around here, most were £70 - £80. They also do ADR ones which cost more but at least I might get something extra out of it. Shall avoid the H&S ones (crazy that you can pick & choose isn’t it - even the place I’m going with said they’d had drivers who’d done the same course 3 times so far…)

The “Smith system” , does this teach you how to out run the old bill in a transit van after syphoning diesel and taking lead off church roofs ?

I’ve always said, elements of the drivers cpc are fair enough as part of the HGV test but they should not make drivers who already have their licence sit through 35 hours of useless information or information that they already know. Crazy.
