Well they no longer load or tip their own nor sheet and rope their own, nor change their own gears, nor find their own route let alone change their own punctures, why would you expect 'em to have the nous to wedge a bloody stick in the filler trigger and keep out the way of the minute splashes a anti syphon filter produces till it clicks off full.
brolly, wide brimmed hat, coatâŠcompany didnât buy me one boo hoo.

I use a 50p as a wedge, BUT the OP is correct, the new MAN anti-syphon is too close to the top and badly shaped, which means anything above 1l per second (MAX!!) and youâre going to wear more diesel than goes in the tank. This isnât just bad for the driver wearing it, but the company paying for the diesel not going in the tank.
Iâm not sure if itâs a standard fit or after market, but itâs crap!
Bang on Waynedl.
It doesnt matter what problem is raised on here therell be plenty who try and look big by saying it isnt a problem at all, its just that youre not as clever as me!
The anti-siphons on MAN trucks are a problem. If you havent had a go with one dont come on here and say its not a problem.
Whats that guy saying? If you can`t fill it up properly without splashing derv all over, just wear a coat and boots? This is why we are so badly thought of and poorly paid.
Well youâre the one getting splashed in Diesel and cold and wet in the rain, the company donât give a toss about the designs faults they bought so they canât be all that bothered about the lost fuel through splashes, so take steps its not bloody rocket science.
The design isnât great, iâve driven them regularly but simply fix the trigger at one click below full speed, leave it only just inside the filler and stand well back whilst it does its thing.
You wouldnât stick your head over the top of a trench when the bullets were zinging past.
This new 13 plate MAN Iâm currently driving, youâve no chance at that speed.
If I hang the fuel nozzle so itâs barely in, I can just get it working on the slowest lock speed, and even then itâll cut out sometimes because the anti-syphon trap has filled too quickly and triggered the cut off in the nozzle.
If you put the nozzle any further in, then it just â â â â â â all the diesel all over the forecourt rather than in the tank.
The 1 in this MAN is similar to the pic below, not identical but very similar, you can see the problems, short stem, then the middle bottom sticks up.
Have you tried putting the nozzle in from the top instead and propping the hose against the deflector, iâve done that with some of our anti syphons and got a much quicker fill, still keeping out the way mind.
Yes mate, but then it kinda sits over or drops onto that bit that sticks up at the bottom and itâs like putting your thumb over a tap, just sprays everywhere.
Trust me, Iâve tried everything with the damned thing, now I just use a 1p piece if thereâs no slow lock and let it take forever, I climb back in the cab tbh and just keep the door open to listen for the change in sound.
A full tank - 450 litre tank, so around 380 - 400 litres - takes around 10 mins, no exageration.
On my old Merc the anti syphon filter was a pain the arse after it was fitted. I soon learnt that if I just hung the nozzle inside the filter, then slowly ramped up the filling speed, I could fill it at full speed after about 10 seconds or so.
My Scania doesnât even have one. Boss says he would rather they took the derv, itâs only a small tank, than break anything trying to take it.

I donât know how big the tank is but I rarely put more than ÂŁ150-ÂŁ200 quid in it at time and that is from quarter tank or so. I guess he reckons that the time hassle etc costs less than my derv
Drift:
Sounds about right, I can just about get ÂŁ350 in from empty.
Its a right pain filling/topping up three or four times a week
Try filling up twice a day sometimes with a â â â â â â 200l scania tank ⊠And for those saying 350 litres 10minz that is quick , try using hartshead with 2 trucks on the same pump , I put 160 litres in 10minz lol â â â â â â â
I got desperate once (my own fault ) and had to pull into a Shell garage at Much Wenlock âŠjeeze that was interesting
Anyway I blocked up four pumps as no HGV pump and after ÂŁ110 went in the tank I got fed up waiting and so did most of the locals behind me
Got more interesting trying to get out of the station fully loaded sharp left turn up that bleedin hill

My old firm had a fuel bunker, and when I started my new job I didnât even realise the flow rate on an HGV pump was greater so I have been caught out by that too
We have some of these anti syphon fillers on our Dafs, takes 3 times longer to fill up and anything more than the first click on the gun (i.e. very slow) results in the diesel being blown back out in a fountain, not good if itâs windy, sort of defeats the object of having high speed pumps.
Are they a deterrent anyway, if someone wants the diesel and canât access the filler theyâll just hammer the gauge unit out or put a hole in the tank !

The latter maybe, most firms now have realised about the sender and have covered it, the MAN I refer to has a metal box over it - another deterrent.
I know that a lot of diesel thefts are actually spiked tanks and what isnât taken runs down the drain leaving nothing in the truck to move it = more expense
A Tennis Ball is your most valued item when refuelling. Used one for years, saves looking for something to jam the nozzle open and it can be adjusted to control the flow,Seemples.
