Female lorry drivers

We need a recruitment drive in 2011 for more female drivers.

We don’t need a recruitment drive for more drivers in 2011, there are already far too many drivers for the jobs available.

…there isn’t a driver shortage…

I know, that’s why I said we don’t need a recruitment drive. We need less drivers, not more.

Divina Galica a run for her money in her prime (i know, none of you know who she is!!)

You mean the one time F1 driver? Nah…No-one will ever guess that!!! :unamused:

Although Pat touched on it, just wait, you lot will cop it when Lucy parks up, she is a lorry driver, just like you, just like me. Simples :stuck_out_tongue:

Computer says no.

We all know these driver vacancies are for crap jobs that no one wants to do which is why they are vacant but yet they bang on about the driver shortage, there isn’t a driver shortage, just a shortage of mugs for crap positions.

HGV driving vacancies for the month were almost double that of January 2010, at 11,341

Sorry to go off topic but I wonder where they get these figures from, I suspect a large part of those jobs are vacancies being advertised by agencies in which case a large proportion would be vacancies that don’t exist and vacancies that are advertised by more than one agency.

On the original question of female drivers, I’ve met a few; some good some not so good … just like male drivers in fact.
But I have to say that I’ve never seen a woman driver defect a vehicle because the radio didn’t work, or defect a vehicle because the front tyre was slightly scuffed (not damaged) where it had been rubbed against a curb or ■■■■■ because they had to do a 1.5 hour drive in a vehicle without a working radio, or spend all their time bragging about the places they’ve been and the things they’ve seen, all of which I’ve seen and heard male drivers do :unamused:

NO THANKS,im sick and tired of having to change runs, hours around because ITS THAT TIME OF THE MONTH,jesus we all get a bit of belly ache, headache but we dont get our times, jobs changed because of it,we just pop a few pills and get on with the job,why can they :unamused: :unamused: .best left in the kitchen :exclamation: :!:

‘‘Apparently’’ thats why wedding dresses are white…matches the other domestic appliances  (scampers off)

in my ‘yoof’ i was a regular reader of all the trucking mags and (thinks) can remember the cover story on one was of a female in a pink 142m pulling a bulker…struggling to remember the name though, was it Kate or summat. Some of the older ones here must remember  Years ago, we used to have a couple of females around this part, Inca (on for Reed Corrugated @ Colthrop) and Fran (mid 80’s Jacobs and later BOC Transhield (Gist) @ Thatcham), both class 1. Inca was obviously no tear arse, could pass her on a pushbike but Fran would have given Divina Galica a run for her money in her prime (i know, none of you know who she is!!)

The lady with the pink Scania 142 with the bulk tipping trailer was Kay Phillips.I think she was from the Market Drayton area.

Some of the Glos’ and Somerset lot might remember Vals Transport; She had a green ERF 8wheeler running quite a bit out of Chipping Sodbury. I’m sure I saw her in Wickwar pit a couple of weeks ago, possibly driving a Scania??

There are more lady truck drivers than you think. I managed to meet some on the road when I was with hubby last week. Enjoyed chatting to them. Hope to see some of you at Truckfest in Peterborough in May. Liz aka scanialady142. :sunglasses:

No need, you’ve said it for me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sadly (in some ways) I’m beyond the point of feeling the need to prove anything to anyone. I come in, I do my job, I go home 5 days later. That’s it. Since I don’t steer the wagon with my ■■■■■■■ any more than men drop their trousers to change gear, I can’t see the relevance of gender any more, so I leave mine at the gate on a Monday morning. You can either do the job or you can’t, end of. I have a family to feed, so I drive.

I will, however, say that my current TM is both female and the best one I’ve ever worked under. But that’s another whole can of worms.

Don’t know her surname, but a nice young lady called Vicki who drives an 8w Scania for Topmix- she’s got a sticker above the chute which says “does my drum look big in this?”

Don’t you remember the Handbury [sic] Davies post?

Have to say I worked with one 20 years ago,on international work, tilts.Slight girl, did the job every bit as good as any bloke, and not afraid to ask for physical help if required.
Was romantically linked to one,on international fridge work, once again, every bit as good as any bloke.
Currently working with one at the moment, and she is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.EVERY run in the place, takes her hours more than than any bloke.
Getting hooked up to a trailer is a half hour mission.Getting deliveries done is a mission, because if shes not moaning about wanting this car moved or that car moved, shes rabbitting on to the storeman,or any one wholl listen. I suppose its not a gender thing. Is a person able for the job or not?Male or female.
