Female lorry drivers are an absolute breath of fresh air to me. I’d like to see more of them.
Can be bloody ■■■■■■■ down with rain and miserable as hell all day but soon as I see a lady driver I instantly cheer up and I don’t know about you but I almost certainly always acknowledge them by giving a little wave or cheeky nod of the head.
I see a lady quite often pulling a tipper brimming with scrap cars through Keighley Denholme area and by god I’m surprised I’ve never actually ever hit her head on.
We need a recruitment drive in 2011 for more female drivers.

I missed that part of it, I never new there was any glory in driving a truck.
heading up the a9 near ballinluig today a MacAskills of Stornoway FH12 was heading southbound, with a woman driving it. funny how you notice things like that, but i dont have a scoobie of other drivers
The job is so easy and all the modern stuff is very user friendly, but still women drivers are few and far between.
I suspect one of the reasons could be that the job does not lend itself to family life, the hours tend to be a bit long without any specific finish time. Also the facilities at many of the places we visit are disgusting, you could do my job in your best suit and I rarely break a sweat yet less than 1.5% of our drivers are women.
I have driven for 22 years and have seen no increase in the number of women drivers and I doubt this will change anytime soon, shame really.
NO THANKS,im sick and tired of having to change runs,hours around because ITS THAT TIME OF THE MONTH,jesus we all get a bit of belly ache,headache but we dont get our times,jobs changed because of it,we just pop a few pills and get on with the job,why can they .best left in the kitchen

Hi All.Up here in the far north about 30 plus percent of the drivers are women.the whole of North Sweden,Finland and Norway is based on heavy industries such as mining.Due to a chronic shortage of people and also not so much in the way of manufacturing industries a lot of girls go the tractor,truck route.
There are quite a lot of women driving trucks and wheel loaders both underground and above ground as well as driving normal 25mtr rigs.They also have a couple of girls driving the LKAB ‘‘dinosaurs’’ underground.These are Volvo artics that transport app 100ton loads of ore.Go girls Go.Mike

Oh right that’s an interesting post. So since I do this job because I love it, I don’t even have a house let alone family, I shouldnt be doing it. Apologies chaps I’ve taken a family mans job.
Nothing against female drivers but i wish they would just get on with it rather than trying to impress i was at Asda lutterworth once and some poor girl must have taken about 10 minutes dumping a trailer off, making sure it was all perfectly straight with the one nexy to it, making sure the legs were all wound down to the correct amount surprised she didn’t get a tape measure out
