22 calls across two phones? That alone is reason enough not to give her HGV licence back.
In one hour? So not even 3 minutes long? How the hell could you make that many calls if you were sitting in an armchair with nothing else to do? Beggars belief
she should of said she was phoning god LINK it certainly could make a difference to the sentence.
Another muppet well away from the wheel of a HGV at least.
Raises a question… all these fellas that gas away on their handsfree kits, if your involved in an accident that your partly to blame for are them phone calls going to count against you in court?
Another area the law is an arse
Cause if she had made those calls whilst distracted by handsfree device
…
Presumably she would be in the clear
Sorry rob . your post was not showing when i posted above .
But also what if fatso was distracted by watching a satnav thing ■■?
Those roads around north wales are not for driving one-handed along at best.
It would have been bad enough phoning whilst on a straight bit of motorway, like the M3 near Fleet services… Talking of which, I understand there’s been a serious RTA down that way tonight.
It says how she was speeding 16 mph over the limit but now would be only 6 over, how many go 6 over?
Whilst we can all be guilty of doing unwise things at times, this woman’s actions are just blatantly stupid and hopefully the traffic commissioners will ensure she is never given access to a HGV ever again in the future.
I use a bluetooth headset so I am truly ‘handsfree’, I don’t make outgoing calls when driving, nor do I answer the phone when it is unsafe to do so (i.e. when reversing, or in busy city centres etc). In contrast how many ‘professional’ drivers do I see driving one handed with a phone perched up against one ear, drifting across lanes and overshooting junctions?
Whilst I am fortunate I don’t drive for those outfits where the traffic office (or indeed customers) are constantly pestering the driver on the cabphone, I would like to see some of those traffic office bods jailed too if they have made an excessive number of calls to a driver, leading to lack of concentration and resultant accidents.

You can use hands-free phones, sat navs and 2-way radios when you’re driving or riding. But if the police think you’re distracted and not in control of your vehicle you could still get stopped and penalised.
So no, she would not have been in the clear.

She was transporting animals, which ment she was restricted to 40mph apparantly.
Id love to know what was so urgent she needed to make so many calls. Id say it was a fair bet it was genral innane chat.
I know this is sexist but it always amazes me that a lot women feel the need to endlessly bunny away on their mobiles.
One of the secertarys where I used to work started work at 9:30. You would always see her pull into the car park with the phone pressed against her ear, everyday.
She told me shed had phone bills of £150-£200 a months, this being in the days before phones were used for interweb browsing etc. .

Even if your not to blame, through no fault of yours, even if the other driver was doing a ton, if you injur or kill on the road then most get prosecuted, in my experience.
I think the police now check phones to see if you made any calls ,even if the phone is in the boot and it was via the car set up

The amount of people I see when I am driving using mobile phones is utterly amazing.
Me personally once I am in control of a vehicle be it my car,Tesco van or a rigid truck then the phone does not get touched.
Ive had people moaning at me not answering my phone to which I respond that I am not allowed to use my phone when driving.
I don’t carry one when driving at all - and get criticized a lot for being “in communicado” all the time. The pressure to relent is highest at Pallet yards - one of the reasons I hate pallet work so much, and prefer pre-planned runs with built-in phones in all the firm’s cabs. There are even some yards where it is a nightmare blundering around country lanes because the office couldn’t be arsed to print you off a couple of maps of the farm locale you’re trying to find.
…Having to pull into any layby one can find to keep phoning in, or get phoned by the office. Put some hands-free bloody phones in the cabs proper FFS!
If Satnavs have allowed any old idiot to become a “professional driver” - then Mobile Phones have done the same for “becoming planners”.
No planners = No phone calls whilst out in the first place.
Incidentally, How many of the in-cab phones (hands free) put there by the firm - don’t actually work because they break down, but don’t get reported as broken - because everyone has brought their own?
In my mind, we should all use the hands-free company installed phones - or none at all whilst driving.
No phone - No talk on the road at all!
