Felgate

Carna:

the pic of scania 110 with merzario trailer posted by carna reg NTW563M was my unit bought in 1981 from scantruck purfleet i used her for coil carrying out of the london steel terminal west ferry rd i would do 3 loads to colnbrook each day with liverpool overnight (naughty) she never missed a beat and was a faithful workhorse the last i saw of her was for sale at walls in rainham maybe gone to cyprus (nice thought)does anyone know who drove her prior to me.

I knew most of Felgates drivers. They all at one time or another came into MIFT to tip and load on 5 shed when I drove for MAT. The motors were always in good fettle and all the drivers were great charicters, some good memories.

i remember pulling one of those tilts out of dover circa 1982 after chasing it across the trailer park (no trailer brake) and when finally under it realising they needed palm couplings which took a bit of begging and borrowing at last i was under way with my tyres fouling the wings and mud flaps cleaning the road the old girl shook her head at the hill out of dover with a straight 5 speed box thats all that 110 had it was a screaming pull to the top jesus what sort of weight was in them it felt like 40t i am sure by the time i got back to felgates the old scanny was 6" longer lol good old days eh.

I drove a tipper for felgate when they had their yard in Romford in the early 60s. 3 sand/ballast to london ex rainham, 3 muck away from the city. In the winter I used to have high sides fitted and carry blindings from S/Williams dagenham dock to london power stations 4 load a day to hackney. Then i went on a 4 wheeler working for shell out of S.L.Hope delivering to home counties garages. Drum of oil etc. Used to play a nice instrument on that job. nudge nudge. But fell out with young ernie and I then left and went on R.V. Morriss of chadwell heath

ah right, livery very similar but in different colours - if you see what i mean  get the photo(s) up ash so i don’t sound quite so dim

just checking what i have missed the last week (on tour, in Turin at mo) do you want old stuff? I worked for Ernie in mid 90s and have lots of pics. Nothing of early stuff though i know a man who does! Keith is right that the first Felgate trucks were taken into the Russel Davies empire after he sold them. When Ernie started again he had different livery. He packed up again early 2000s when Unitruc bought him out. Last i heard Ernie was doing a spot of driving himself.

An old thread but I would love to see some pics of Felgates Trucks.
I’m interested in any pics but if anyone’s got JLL ■■? K think it was 972 and believe she was 110 day cab, then DEV 181 T a 111 and pretty sure this was a sleeper cab. Even the newer 112 that were painted in Felgates colours before RD took over and turned them Yellow would be appreciated. Any pics of DEV181T would be the icing on the cake.

Cheers Alan

Up again.

I Never new that Unitruc took over Ernie Felgate great new thread Canute brought a lot of Felgates old day cab they were down the bottom of his yard here are a few photos to get you started
