Fed ex

Anyone work for or have worked for fed ex?? I’m applying for a job as class 1 night trunker and wondered what they were like to work for. Money seems ok. What kind of fleet do they use??

Any help appreciated

Just chucked the application in the bin :smiling_imp:

Nah, axors or whatever, I’m sure it will be road legal. Not the best motors, but can’t have everything.

Nearly all my shifts are for Fedex, vehicles are clean and nearly all Axors under 2yrs old, very well maintained, generally nice people, dunno about darn sarf but from Parkhouse (Newcastle-under Lyme) northwards the depots are pretty good and not too bad to get to (couple of tight bits to Chorley and Jarrow is a PITA). If you’re working for them you’ll get your own regular run usually between 7 & 9hrs including break. Pay is comfortably above average, all depots/hubs seem have vending machines & microwaves in the rest rooms. Good luck with the application.

Thanks chicane, seems pretty reasonable to me. It’s nights which i ain’t used too, but I’ve been doing agency work for the last couple of years and want to get myself a “proper” job. The money is decent, only a couple of grand less than a mate of mine gets for night trunking in Berkshire.

Reckon nights are ok if you’re doing the same shift, you can get into a sleep pattern, Unfortunately I’m never knowingly given the same run/shift twice

I’ve always wondered, are FedEx drivers paid by the hour or paid a shift payment??

Lookin at the ad for the one I’ve gone for, it’s salary.

That would explain why they need to fly like a bird…

Is Wilson the foot ball still working there?

Think it depends on your contract. I’m allegedly on the same hourly rate as their own drivers, some of their guys are on 0 hour contracts, don’t know what the others are on. Everyone seems ok with things though.

Worked for them over 20 years ago on the International division out of Leeds.

I have to say they were very employee friendly, and it was a great job until they merged us with the domestic division and it went downhill rapidly. They pulled out of the UK not long after. Now I reckon they are just like UPS as in all one service.

Ken.

We load out of FED-EX Stoke and it seems the norm is when shift is over you wash unit, fuel up then park it up. Good thing.

As it should be everywhere, but sometimes the next driver is waiting on the keys before you get a chance

What ARE considered the “best motors” then?
As agency, I’d rather have a motor that the next bod isn’t going to leave in a right old state for ME next time around. Some of these up/down/around & round begsy-not-included motors like scanias leave a bit to be desired on that front I think! Renaults ain’t much better. Every time you twitch in your seat or scratch your arse, something switches off that shouldn’t (like the lights!) and something gets knocked by your knees and comes on (like full beam when you’re coming over the brow of a hill!) so I can’t say I particularily like Scanias OR Renaults compared to Actros/Axors or even DAFs! :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, unlike the tescos axors, you’re not being marked down for idling at the traffic lights all the time - no fleetboard!

Best motors tend to be ones without axor, Renault or iveco written on them
I’ve always imagined American firms to be pleasant to work for (for some strange reason)

Winseer, my axor remark was tongue in cheek, I couldn’t care less what I drive as long as its road legal and got a heater and a radio. I’ve only driven an axor as a rigid, and thats not the greatest either, so I’m only taking the opinions on here about the axor unit. I’m like you, I like to get into a tidy motor that’s not got ■■■■ everywhere and needs cleaning out before you go anywhere.

In 20+ years of driving, I’ve spent a lot of time being “comfortable” in DAF’s (when Full time) and now AXORs now I’m agency.
You’re right of course! I’m not keen on Scanias and Renaults, and can’t remember driving an iveco since coming off 7.5tonners.
Axors are the bread and butter of the industry for this decade I reckon!

FedEx run fleet spec Axors so they’re nothing special but apart from the sidelights (I always carry a screwdriver and spare bulbs anyway), the seat which seems bloody hard after 5hrs driving, and the gearbox which I think the workshop guys at Parkhouse seem to have sussed out, they are OK motors, controls are pretty much to hand but not in the way and like most motors you soon get used to them, the brake pedal operation is maybe a bit ‘softer’ than other makes I’ve driven. They are also kept pretty immaculate by both the drivers and maintenance.
