Fans of Fodens

Agreed Dave, you COULDN’T do much more nowadays though it would possibly be a little easier (though speed limiter’s could well mess thing’s up)! I certainly couldnt have done Ballidon to St Clears and back at 56 mph, only just scraped it in 10 hours with the pedal to the metal! At least with a Foden you were pretty sure of getting home again after a full days graft, even if a few bits fell off on route.

Pete.

One of C W Griffiths seen at the factory at Sandbach. The yellow one.

(Yellow one) Possibly the best 6 wheeler ever built, roomy, quiet, handled well and was reliable. Bet I’ll be shouted down by some for putting that down

I think the boys this way would like to get those sort of trips now Pete. Most of the long one’s are done by clearing houses, also a lot of work has gone to other quarries now they have reorganised the regions. I think the likes of you and me saw the better days on tippers, even though the power was less  .
Cheers Dave.

Hello all
HERE ARE A FEW FROM MY SCRAPBOOK

Regards R-Jacko

Hi R-JACKO, ref; the middle pic of the silver and blue foden. Used to see them around a lot in the 90s, mainly ERFs, but do recall seeing the odd Foden.
Were they called Bailey’s transport, where were they from…

Hello gunnerheskey
The middle pic i would assume to be a promotional shot. The bottom pic of the Greenwoods Foden they were brought out by Bailey’s of Westbury.
Regards R-Jacko

Im sure mcgoverns bought the fleet of those fodens off cleanaway and took on the contract they were on for cleanaway and they gave alot of trouble as they had the new ■■■■■■■ l10 engine which had a lot of teething troubles

They had a few six wheeler Fodens with that cab until the 3000 series came out, that spelt the end of those, also the first 3000’s they ran had 325 ■■■■■■■ in them.
Cheers Dave.

How long ago was the pic taken of the Pearson 8 wheeler? Asking because Pearsons have a few restored vehicles, bet one of their old ones would interest them…

Hiya Muckaway…if you go to Ashley Pearsons site you can see the foden partly restored i think it will be ready for gaydon next year
Ashley has put new chassis rails and renewed all the back suspension bushes take a look.
John

Some excellent pics there 3300john,
One that caught my eye was LKB635E The dark blue David jones mickey mouse foden, powered by a Gardner 180. I posted an identical lorry on an earlier page, 8 legger on an E plate also with a Gardner 180, where as i only ever remember 150s. Now i posted hoping someone could shed some light on it, possibly been converted , then seeing your pic, could they have been a one off batch ■■? The mind boggles…

Two more flanked by a couple of Big J’s
