In situations like this it’s just much less hassle to ease off, let then in to carry on with their seemingly hectic life and i can carry on with my day.
Barely even illicits a response from me these days. I see no point in reacting. It’s only going to result in paperwork and myself as a lorry driver being blamed anyway.
When someone is trying to overtake, you should ease off the gas to help the faster vehicle overtake.
Where did you make this up from■■?
It is only incumbent on you to maintain a safe and steady course. No requirement to slow down!
“Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.”

Maybe you ought to read the highway code once in a while.

Are you saying I pushed in?
Should just keep outta my way!
[emoji12] if you had just accelerated a little quicker and merged safely or decided to just too ease off a bit and drop in behind and then overtake me, all this could have been avoided [emoji23]

It’s not 50/50.
It’s 100/100.
Two total idiots.
Yea I agree.
I will put more blame on the HGV driver though as he is supposed to be a profesional.
Also this type of things happen so other with HGV drivers. Not all but a good few hate being overtaken or having to slow down to give way to cars on a slip round. If they have to touch the brake once they get mad.
It’s all about getting to that destination 20 secs earlier.
I was following two trucks up the M11 the other day. For a good 20 miles they were basically in two lanes, neck and neck. Neither one wanted to drop down by half a mph to give way to the other.
It’s behaviour like this that gives us a bad name.
There is also a section of the M11 in which the right hand lane is 7.5t during certain times. This gets ignored so often and you will have two hgvs neck and neck which causes tailbacks.
Exactly correct, the car driver was driving badly but the so called professional driver reacted in the worst possible way.
Some drivers need to learn that just because they are in the right they can drive aggressively and dangerously.
There’s far too much blaming everyone else these days instead of allowing for others mistakes and reacting accordingly.

Do you give lessons on aggressive and dangerous driving and when to use it? Surprised you were allowed to instruct such dangerous practices
jakethesnake: when there isn’t room to do so taking up the trucks braking space.
Really? It may have been a safer option for the truck to ease off the gas or even use his footbrake to create a gap (braking space) for the dumb car driver.
That’s if he used observation and anticipation but instead he or she nearly caused a major pile up. One of many lucky escapes that take place everyday.
Shows what a prize bell end you are really doesn’t it?
Did I not say that in the post but yet again you side on the car drivers side for trying to get ahead of a truck to go nowhere. But you’d rather point out the only bit that backs up your argument that I myself also made.
Seriously your just a wind up merchant who needs to get a life and stop being all holier than thou.
Anyone who holds a licence to drive should uphold the high standards you speak of, and not be given the excuse they are a car driver who doesn’t know better. They do know better and have been taught to know better but don’t give a toss and drive like complete cretins.
So keep defending cretins that can’t drive and keep telling us all what bad drivers truck drivers are pal.

You are better at giving insults than understanding situations. There are plenty cretins driving cars but until you stop being biased and realise there are also cretins driving lorries. More and more these days.
Far too many quick to point out the faults of others but instead of reacting accordingly to help the situation they do the opposite. Aggressive and dangerous.

I am quite capable of understanding their are cretins driving all sorts of vehicles, I encounter it every day on the roads.
My point is as usual the only thing you have to say on here is the truck driver is always wrong and always to blame, and you have trotted out the suggestion that car drivers don’t know any better when they do. You side with car drivers 100% of the time and blame the truck driver 100% of the time.
You also chose to quote only the part that backed up your argument and ignored the bit where I also acknowledged the truck driver was also a bell end.
So I’m quite happy to stick by my suggestion that you are a prize bell end.
Every single post I read of yours is spouting the same crap time and time again because you believe you are better than everyone else and always 100% right.
Maybe you ought to try being a little less biased instead of accusing everyone else of being biased.

Your assumptions are mainly wrong. You will learn in time hopefully.

And I very much doubt you will ever learn to stop being so biased and Mr holier than thou, but I certainly won’t hold my breath of you ever changing your mindset.

So every single time someone starts to overtake you, you cancel your cruise control? Because that was carlston’s interpretation of the highway code.
I stand by my memory of the highway code.

It varies to the situation generally but yes if someone is trying to overtake me and making a hash of getting past me or being a rolling roadblock yes I back off and let them past even if it means dropping back a fair bit to maintain my separation distance.
If someone is overtaking at a decent lick then I don’t need to assist them getting past.
I am not being biased Simon. I would love to give lorry drivers more credit but there are too many bad ones with an equally bad attitude. I know the standards of car drivers are appalling but most don’t have a clue. Most are unaware of what they should be doing. And it’s just the same with some lorry drivers. Pass a basic test and then do it your own way!
When I was on the road I was a little like you always trying to defend lorry drivers however there were far fewer bad ones then and the roads were much quieter. It’s attrocious nowadays and it’s just luck there are not far more bad accidents.
I suspect you, like me you take pride in what you do and despise bad driving (especially car drivers) but the fact is there are bad drivers in every group and it ain’t getting any better.
Thank goodness I am retired.
PS I am not holier than thou (sorry I maybe come across that way) but as I say I take great pride in everything I do.
I know my downsides when it comes to driving, patience being my main problem but I always question myself in any awkward situation and always try to do the correct thing.

Not worth a reply. You are better than that.
Chris Sutton’s sidekick by any chance ? If anyone else had made the mistake you made it would be a non event yet when you come across as Peter Perfect then to good an opportunity to miss someone with a bit of personality would have seen the funny side and you did reply.
