good luck with the next one, hope u pass ok.
i failed again, but the sun was blazing in my eyes at a round about and i didn’t see a cars indicator because of the sun in my eyes.
i should have remembered the saying my lorry driver friends say:-
IF IN DOUBT, DON’T PULL OUT!!!
bloody typical.
i had 1 minor and 1 serious
not good.
It will take bloody ages to save up the money i need and i don’t want to borrow any.
bummer really.

Hi mutha-trucker, I’m very sorry to hear of your result, but if your 1 serious was for the indicator incident, then you were doing REALLY well up to that point. Putting it another way, apart from the 1 serious, you were way above the standard required of instructors.
IMHO, you should take heart from that
I always advised candidates to have some sort of baseball type cap with them, but to only wear it for the test, IF there was a low sun.
That was just in case the examiner has a “thing” about baseball caps!!
A baseball type cap is a perfectly good addition as a safety feature on a test, and even shows the examiner that you’ve pre-planned and considered possible weather conditions ahead of your test.
Also IMHO, you might be wise to swallow your pride and borrow the money, because if you continue with your current plan, you might just go “rusty” between tests, due to lack of practice. Just a thought…
well, diesil dave, thank you for the comments.
the only problem is that i am up to my eye balls in debt at the mo so borrowing the money is a no no at the mo.
I wish i could but i can’t really.
I went for an interview on friday for a 7.5 tonne driver got to wait to see if i got the job now but i think it is a no as i have being a female against me, also the fact i have no experience.
bummer really.
i can’t wait to get back behind the wheel, i feel more at home in a lorry than i do a car
I had another test on thursday 10th Jan.
I FAILED!!
i had 2 minors and 2 serious.
i got in the wrong lane at the round about and didn’t indicate.
i was gutted.
Whast you have to ask yourself is WHY you went into the wrong lane and WHY you did not indicate.
Something is wrong here.
You are not failing for hitting curbs or crashing gears so you are handling the vehicle ok.
The problem is lying with your basic road craft. Are you making sure you are ‘driving to the book’ when you are in your car between tests?
Dont forget the training is not just a few days to show you how to pass a test it is to re establish your correct driving procedures and the way you are taught to drive the truck is the basic way you should be driving any vehicle you are in so make sure you PRACTICE all the time in your own vehicle.
Get those basic skills drummed into your brain and take an hour or two to really read and understand the highway code. It is the road users bible after all.
Get your head round it and your pass slip will follow.
Good luck
I thought that the road to the roundabout had a double headed arrow. thats all nothing else.
I could not see the arrow on the road as there was a car covering the markings on the road.
1 minor and 1 serious.
bummer really
i am handling vehicle ok but its just the stupid little mistakes i keep making.
Hi mutha-trucker
Sorry to hear you failed again.
Do not despair I passed my LGV C on the FOURTH attempt nearly 3 years ago
1st fail 3 minors 1 serious:2nd 7 minors 1 seroius: 3rd 16 minors
4th 7 minors no serious PASS
the 1st serious was slow reaction to pedestrians getting close to the kerb as i approached
the next one was wrong lane on a roundabout
3rd attempt was totally diabolical was ready to jack it all in but a stern word from the domestic manager soon changed my mind
now i’m on builders merchant work and enjoying it

If it was important that you should be able to see the road markings but your view was blocked by, say, a stationary car, then the examiner should inform you of what is there as you do not have xray vision. This was clearly explained to me by the examiners at Weedon & Gloucester DTCs.
If you do however, get in the wrong lane, that in itself is not a failure - It is how & what you then do about it that counts.
I got out of jail with lane selection on my C test.
Examiner says “at the traffic lights turn right”
I (following mirrors and all that) move from inside lane outer lane. Instantly realising my mistake. He had NOT said “at the traffic lights turn right and follow the road ahead”.
Yes, this had a left/right double headed arrow for inside lane and right headed arrow for outside lane.
Instantly realising my mistake, I ask “which way next”. His response was “you can only turn one way…”. Hmm…cheers mate.
I completed the turn in lane two, checked it was safe, signalled and got over to the inside lane so I could do the expected left turn at the next set of lights.
So (as mentioned before the test to me) listen to what the examiner says carefully. If you’re not sure, ask for it to be repeated.
I completed the turn in lane two, checked it was safe, signalled and got over to the inside lane
PERFECT - you may have got a minor for ‘awareness & planning’ as you selected the wrong, but usable, approach lane but no more than that as you ‘PUT IT RIGHT SAFELY’.
If the lane you chosen had been a designated turn down a dead end road and you were forced to take it, then you may get a ‘SERIOUS’ if it got you into difficulties. Had an artic trainee on test who did just that - the examiner had to ask the owners of a builders yard if they could turn around in it
PS it would also help if those that are coming for their C training had, in general, a bit more driving sense. I get fed up with going back to basics which were taught in the car L training. Most seem to have dropped standards since their car test.
Agree 100% Rog. Letting standards slip is all too common - even with truckers. how many times do you hear people say “Well you only have to drive this way for the test dont you?”
I remember being told that there are ytwo ways to drive. The way you were trained and the dangerous way.
So if you pass your test by driving the correct way why change it - to the dangerous way?
keep at it don,t give up i,ve got my first test end of feb if i fail which im 100% confident i,ll pass first time, i,ll bang straight back in. you said the car was covering the arrow on the road, i think its not your fault for that but being in two lane was shame but stick with it somehow you put too much into it to give up.
