Taken my test this morning in Atherton. I dropped points on not checking under the bonnet for drugs, part of my cockpit drill by not clearly showing handbrake is on and in neutral and I forgot to get back out of my cab and check lights. Was a big shock over the lights and brake and neutral because I felt cockpit and vehicle checks were spot on but that’s what happens when under pressure
Were you using the vehicle check sheet as allowed ?
No for some crazy reason I still don’t understand I decided I would be fine without it.
Thats where I did mine too. The check sheets are a nifty thing to have, very helpful. Get it re-booked and get it passed. Did you have the ‘shaky’ examiner?
Not sure i was doing a fair bit of shaking to haha. Ye I won’t be beaten by it just a short term set back. I know what to expect for next time now

I was in a similar situation, to this day I have no idea how I passed that test. The check sheet is a life saver though.
I don’t get why people think they need a check sheet.
I got 100% just by having a great trainer.
And I still know how to thoroughly check round a vehicle before taking it out.
Bad luck to he OP for the fail. Best of luck for next time.
Don’t be disheartened just get back out there and do it again

I didn’t have a check sheet and I got 95! Forget to check for bricks between the tyres!

Nerves causing memory issues
Oh. That’ll be it. Silly me !!!

To be honest we don’t let our students use a check sheet. It somehow doesn’t feel right to read the answers on a practical test. There are only 10 items to remember and you only need to get 7 of them to scrape through that question anyway.

100% is by far the most common score in our experience. The examiner will prompt you for the correct answer as well. The secret is to not give up on a question until you feel the examiner is satisfied. Each question has 4 parts to the answer (except the daily walkround question which has 10 parts) and each part is worth 5 points. You must get at least 3 parts right to pass the question.
Study the questions over and over until you know them. There are only 20 different questions to learn and some of them are very similar.
A vehicle check list is used by drivers on a daily basis so using one for the same thing on test makes sense
Has anybody found any differences in how the mod 4 test is examined by different examiners in different test centres?

If you say so.
Opened up a can of worms here lol. The mod 4 feels like to me that if your on the boarder line of pass or fail the examiner swing it either way on how he is feeling. On my test I was looking for drugs or illegal immigrants and after I checked the front wheel area and started to move down the truck getting to the back wheels he told me this area is fine and to move on. I didn’t check under the bonnet but got marked down.
Or is it a case of pass/fails ratio they work buy?
On that question did you mention
- Check all 4 sides of vehicle externally - 5 marks
- Check under and on top of vehicle and door seals and curtain seals - 5 marks
- Check that fuel filler cap is secure and not tampered with - 5 marks
- Check inside of cab thoroughly for illegal items/people - 5 marks
We have only ever had 1 person fail the mod4 and it was on this question. This is the longest question to answer and needs a systematic approach to make sure nothing is missed.
seems to me to be a load of old tosh
didnt type it as i knew autocensor would get it.
What’s a mod 4?
And what’s this about checking under the bonnet for drugs, …

Phil,
Module 4 is discussed in this topic and just here:
A new LGV driver needs to pass Module 4 (usually after the road driving test) before being allowed to drive commercially.

It’s part of the Mod 4 test, so that question can be asked by the examiner.
