Fail mod 4

A vehicle check list is used by drivers on a daily basis so using one for the same thing on test makes sense

If you say so.

At my work (Iceland) I know the drivers have a lengthy check sheet which they must fill in but then again its health and safety barmy. I believe most of it simply gets ticked as the drivers know what to look for. If it were me it would come in handy for the very first few times out in a wagon until I got familiar with pre-checks. Most of it is common sense anyway, I don’t think anyone would simply jump into an unfamiliar wagon and drive off straight away down the motorway.

Regarding the mod 4 test, I did refer to it to make sure I hadn’t missed anything, turns out I had missed a couple of simple things which topped up my overall marks. Then again I did have barely an hours training on a 2:1 basis. With longer more thorough training I suspect it would be much easier not to refer to the sheet.

ROG:
Were you using the vehicle check sheet as allowed ?

They have stopped that now

First I have heard of that … can any trainer verify it ?

Can only of happened in recent weeks.

When i did my Mod 4 i asked if i could have a sheet and the DSA bloke said “No” as it is classed as cheating due to it helping you answer the questions. Bear in mind this is Peterborough

 At our centre, the last question (daily checks) is often introduced by the examiner: Right, this is where you need to get your check sheet out etc etc.

So there is no question. It is allowed. Any examiner saying differently should be challenged.

Pete

But surely using a check sheet just means you are able to read it off the sheet. Surely the whole point of Mod4 training is to give a candidate enough knowledge to complete the test without help.

I second that.

I just called the DSA on 0115 936 6666 and the check sheets are allowed on a mod 4 test so if any examiner says otherwise then they should be asked to phone that number for advice

I called the examiner office at Peterborough LGV on 01733 263647 and the examiner I spoke to stated that they are allowed and that is for all the UK

Perhaps you had an examiner with their own personal agenda on the day of your test

Which is wrong. I used to think people who said examiners have a quota to meet are mad, but i’m not so sure tbh.

I failed my Class 2 but crossing a white line which was covered in “white snow!” on the driving part of the test, if I never seen it then how did he? Instructor said it was ridiculous (Examiner was a bike examiner but had to do so many tests on all categories to retain license or something) and examiner himself said it was silly but “out of his hands”. Passed my CE first time couple of months later with no problems, no nerves on either tests. Had 0 minors on first Class 2 test except that ‘serious’.
