Extra 1 hour driving

Just a quick question. If the company ask me to go into my 10 hour driving can I say no or is it up to the company wether I use it or not ■■

You can do it twice a week. Why would you say no?

I would say no and don’t understand what reason you would have to refuse?

I’m not gonna say no to the company I just wanted to know if it’s drivers choice or companies choice

They will give you all the good jobs after that. Crack on drive.

If they “ask” you, that implies that you can refuse. On the other hand, refusing things like this on some principle or other just puts you in the ‘awkward squad’ and you may well find that you get all the crap work for a while. Refusing with a good reason - You just handballed ten tonnes of compost, or the extra hour will mess up the rest of the week, is different.

Depends on the company you work for, how much you like the job etc. they can’t MAKE you use a 10, but as others have said, you will be seen as an awkward git at best, trouble causer at worst if you refuse.

Depends on whether you own the truck and pay your own wages. If so say no and make your choices. If this is not the case do what’s asked, you are getting paid to work!

There is no definitive answer but the driver has the last word if it involves safety

Over a two week period a company could roster your driving like this
8 10 9 10 8 … 8 9 10 10 8

I doubt that there any laws or rules you can use to refuse to do a 10 hour drive, mostly would depend on terms and conditions in your contract.
Always assuming obviously that it is legal to do it!

They can plan you for anything that’s legal. And secondly, other than multi drop, does anyone get planned timed runs, ie, start at 0600 depart depot 0616 return 1938 etc?

used o get timed runs all the time on trunking.
late arrivals or departures required a debrief.

They can plan a 10 hour drive for you.

They can plan a 15 hour shift for you if you have a reduced daily rest available.

As long as it meets the regulations they can plan it.

They can plan it even if it doesn’t comply with the Regulations. Whether it gets done or not is a separate matter entirely…

I dont reduce for no company unless im tramping…9 hours to get home…sleep shower/eat and get back is not enough.

why do most assume that doing a 15 hour shift must then have only 9 hours off ? - sure its only 9 off for the regs but there is nothing to stop the driver having 11 hours off after doing a 15 shift

Yeh , it’s amazing how many drivers think that the 9 hrs off is compulsory rather than a minimum. :unamused: those that do are purposely left in ignorance by their bosses, as it suits them.
You are not even having 9 hours ‘rest’ in real terms anyway, you park up, have a wash/shower, meal. You do not switch off to sleep like a machine you lie awake for half an hour or so. You wake, bog and wash, cup of tea, book on , so in real terms you are having about 6 hours sleep, less if you are on days and travel to work to travel down the motorway with 44 tonnes… How safe is that?

Now cue all the heroes that predictably boast they only need (fill in the blank) hours kip, and to man up :unamused:
