Yeh , it’s amazing how many drivers think that the 9 hrs off is compulsory rather than a minimum. those that do are purposely left in ignorance by their bosses, as it suits them.
You are not even having 9 hours ‘rest’ in real terms anyway, you park up, have a wash/shower, meal. You do not switch off to sleep like a machine you lie awake for half an hour or so. You wake, bog and wash, cup of tea, book on , so in real terms you are having about 6 hours sleep, less if you are on days and travel to work to travel down the motorway with 44 tonnes… How safe is that?
Now cue all the heroes that predictably boast they only need (fill in the blank) hours kip, and to man up
I usually like to crack on with the job and get a good bit done and don’t mind long days most of the time, but the counter balance to that for me is that I really do like my bed. Its not such a problem over here as we mainly just please our selves on mileage pay and paper log books but in the UK I would never even think about having just 9 hours off if I’m going home for the night. I can manage 9 in the truck, especially if I’m parking late and as a result are more likely to go to bed sooner after parking but even then its iffy for me personally. I could never park at 4pm and start again at 1am though for example, no chance. Over here you can take an 8 hour daily rest in certain circumstances and if I try to do it 10 times, I’ll still end up having a full 10 hour break (or longer) 9 of those times because I just can’t drag myself out of bed if I haven’t slept enough.
I’ve just got home now and I’ll be having over 14 hours off tonight, which will do very nicely!

You can take 23 hrs and 59 minutes off after a 15 hr day, but only 9 hrs are going to count as rest?
No, all 23h 59m counts as Rest. What is important for compliance with the Regs though is the Rest you are able to take within 24 hours of your shift starting.
It depends if your agency .its a disciplinary matter if you don’t say three bags full …but its expected you do anything your asked if you are .but no high heels or bunny suits…that’s too far
Rog theres only 24 hrs in day
so anything over13hr shift wil result in a
reduced break.
you could us H&S as a reason’
occasionally we had to do
Cov - Basildon x 2 it was always a 10 hour drive
no POA just trailer swop in Cov and tipped straight away

whoooosh
you have totally misunderstood what ROG said
ROG said that you can have as much time off as you like, after a 15 hour shift, BUT, only 9 will count for that day
I try not to use a 10 hr drive as its there in my opinion to get you out of trouble where your held up ! if your planed for 10 hrs driving your asking for trouble
10 hour drives shouldn’t be an issue, now if a company was expecting me to come in after 9 off, that’s another matter.
This is why I prefer agency work. If my shift over runs then I simply update my availability accordingly, but if I was a company boy then they could expect me in after 9 hours off.
I will not do 9 off as I wouldn’t get enough sleep. 10 hour drives are all good as I only deduct the one break.
10 hour drives aren’t an issue at all. The simple fact is that if you aren’t feeling fatigued then there is no reason why you should’ do one (providing you have one left that is), saying “I won’t do a 10 hour drive” is as petty and ridiculous as me saying “I won’t drive more than 6 hours and 15 minutes in a day” or any other arbitrary figure that I could come up with. If the man who pays your wages requests you to go somewhere that will involve breaking into a ten, and providing it’s a legal request then you better had do it or you may find that Pytor who’s just taken over your truck will do it.
