Till the end of may, but the initial 5.5 hour drive before needing a 45 has been dropped.
There’s no 9s and 10s, just 11s under the relaxation, but you can’t use the relaxation willy nilly, it has to be justified and a printout written out with the justification

I’m curious to know where you’re going to be doing 11 hours driving in a day ?

Doesn’t sound particularly relaxing to me. My idea of relaxed hours would be limiting the hours not extending them. Amazing how the terminology makes it sound appealing.

Guessing Amazon, parcel companies wanting to use 1 driver for a two man job, usual suspects.
Doesn’t apply to Tangs, as 11hour drive is only half a shift…

15 hours - 15 mins for checks - 90 mins for breaks - 11 hours driving leaves 2 hrs 15 mins for all loading, tipping and other work. That isn’t happening on Amazon and parcel work.

I’m struggling to see how you’re doing 11 hours of pure driving per day from Birkenhead on that work once you factor in the other elements, but whatever. With the exception of your seemingly special case and the boys who are doing long distance continental work, basically no-one needs 11 hours of driving time and so the “temporary relaxation” is pointless (as was the driving time extension between breaks which they’ve since scrapped).
The whole thing is nothing more than a PR exercise to make it look like they’re doing something to ensure the shops stay stocked, but the truth of the matter is that it’s done absolutely ■■■■ all because no Tesco RDC driver is ever going to exceed 8 hours of driving per day, never mind 9, 10 or even 11 hours.
It would have been better in this situation to see:
-
a scheme that would encourage hauliers to offer out work that they can’t cover to companies currently unable to do their bread and butter work, instead of extending the remaining drivers hours.
-
the government asking the retailers what efforts they will make to ensure the supply chain (thinking of trucks waiting for hours at deliveries and collections, deliveries rejected when outside the booking window etc.)

I agree. I dipped into a 10 hour drive period sometime towards the back end of last year. I found the whole experience to be traumatic tbh and vowed never to do it again.

Plus the fact of feeling let down and cheated by the whole experience, I would have needed counseling. I wonder if trading standards would need to be involved through false claims being made.

There was no need to. I did Howden, Crawley, Brighton and made it back to Howden in 9hrs 50m the other week. 810km.
^^^^ funnily enough I noticed on “the scores on the doors” report that is put up weekly in our office that my average speed for the week is around 5mph faster despite my cruise being as always set at 86kph.

Aye, but that was only because you were meeting me at Clyst pub, and ■■■■ all to do with being conscientious at work.

Jesus! You’re like a bloody woman; never forget anything!
Actually you’re correct, that was the day.
Who would have thought a date with Rob was so forgetable ? !!!
Regards John.

I’m sure you and me would get on great over a pint John (not a ‘date’’ btw as you say. I hasten to add
) despite how you love to wind me up on here.

Aye Rob, in the late 60s all the Halifax lads would park-up at Valance Road or Back Church Lane when in London. We could be miles away but would do our best to meet up.
Have some real craic in the pubs, get something to eat and stagger back. It’s all looking a bit bleak at the moment, but they can’t take your memories ! . Take care when you get back on the road.
Regards John.

Valance rd?..mine use to be Aldgate r/about, the Ramp at Bishopgate, early 80s, and Sheperds Bush to check out all the Irish (IRA ) pubs, (how tf we were not knee capped after all the stick, I’ll never know
) then hit the tube down the West end to Old Compton st?..to get ripped off in the strip bars.
Good days when drivers used to all socialise before they became ■■■■ sad assed hermits in lay bys.
Anyhoo…back to the thread. …Who’s loving the extended hours.?
