Expired car tax, does it anger you

i used to use a beer mat.

It would have been better to totally scrap RFL in favour of sticking it all on fuel. That way, if you dodge the tax, you run out of fuel, or might even be daft to try and play the tramp at the MSA and nick/scrounge someone else’s.

Can not VOSA merely drive past a registration plate these days, and get auto-flagged if the vehicle isn’t taxed & mot’d?

Most vehicles that don’t have road tax I’m thinking are just lapsed MOT failures anyway. If you’ve paid for repairs or got it past the MOT without work being done, then why then not bother to tax it? Both or neither must be the norm don’tya think?

The biggest gain of all would be Eurodrivers coming over here who currently pay sod all, now find themselves paying through the nose for diesel wherever they get it. They might even “stop coming here” if fuel went up enough - boohoo! :sunglasses:

I taxed mine at the beginning of the month £120 for 6 months. The car subsequently failed it’s MOT 3 days later. £300.00 repairs and back on the road. Keeps Plod off my back and that’s all that matters.

Keep in mind that not every car on the road without an in-date tax disc is illegal, at the end of last month I inadvertently left it until the last day to tax my car on-line and was legally driving for a few days without an in-date tax disc.

I drove my Navara with an out of date tax disc a fair few hundred miles last weekend.
The current tax disc was on my doormat when I got back home 3 days later.
If someone had of bothered me, I would have probably told them to mind their own, if they had of persisted, they would have got a warning to ensure they had adequate insurance regarding health.

I am absent minded, have a lot of vehicles and it is not at the top of my list of things to do. I pay hundreds of pounds a year to tax my vehicles, if someone is going to highlight this to me, then they are going to get abuse from me, be they official or otherwise.

Problem with the cretins who populate this small Island, are their small minds…My Navara looks like a conveyance of Gypseys anyway, and I look like a Gypsey, so dont get bothered too much

How about scrapping it but leaving fuel as it is considering it’s already over taxed (I know that won’t happen though)

As for the original question, non payment of RFL doesn’t really concern me but no insurance does.

That’s true for me too.

You cant buy road tax without insurance but you can buy insurance without road tax :stuck_out_tongue:

No one has gone to jail for road fund licences running out, but they have for no insurance, probably not recently though…

Fff…! - Where’s mine! :open_mouth:

So all you lads that condone them that run with no tax would’nt mind if one of them rammed your motor because 90% that dont tax are’ny going to bother to insure either I dont think you would be happy having to cough up in those circumstances.Yes I would report them as I am a pensioner and if I can find the money to tax it so should they the law is the law. Eddie.

`how would having no tax affect any insurance claim if someone untaxed but insured went into your vehicle ?

Watch some o the Police programmes you will see that the ones who dont tax invariably dont insure.

You believe these people?
You will find that statistics from the police, and any other government body are greatly exaggerated for financial gain.

If they brought the price of insurance tax etc more people would pay so they would get the same amount in or more but just in different ways you would also have more road users on the road legal

About 6 years ago I went to put my kids on car insurance at the time had a Rover 25 1.4 ( so group 4 ) it was gonna put my insurance up to nearly 3k

I agree.

Car insurance is basically legalised robbery in this country. The usual bleat from the insurers is that the cost of dodgy personal injury accidents has driven the cost of premiums up. Pass plus should be made compulsory, you should be limited to a 1 litre car for two years after passing your test and in return if you don’t have any accidents or get any points your insurance should be capped at £1000 for the first year. As for out of date tax, it’s their problem, leave them to it.

Pass Plus doesnt reduce the car insurance as so few took it up they might be better off doing an advance driving course

But yep basically agree

discoman:
your talking like a [zb] cant afford to pay it do not drive take a bus no excuses for breaking the law … if it has to be paid it has to be paid simple … if all people who drive illegally with no insurance where 100% legal … the innocent people who get hit by the hit and run drivers with no licence or insurance are the ones that suffer jail all the [zb] who do not pay the road tax insurance mot etc … half of them who dont are unemployed but can still smoke have led tvs etc.

well said these people get handed everything to them on a plate makes me sick. Why should we work all hours just to live when they get everthing for free and still cant be bothered to have their cars legal.

It also ■■■■■■ me off that certain cars get cheaper/free road tax, their still using the bloody roads so they should pay the same rate of tax as other vehicles of the same size!! :imp:
