Expired car tax, does it anger you

I see them daily with the last year red style car tax,out of date,no attempt to hide it :grimacing: :grimacing: with the wiper, they must be uninsured,no mot as well,it never used to bother me,i sometimes feel like giving them a small bump and say, sorry mate,i did not see you,i wonder how long it takes for them to leave the scene before plod turn up.
It seemed more of this up in Wakefield and Bradford, saw about five a day, young, old, mums, dads, rich and poor, all shapes and colours of drivers.
They must be SORNED,and take the risk.

DVLA have a free phone number or go online too.

You can do everything online these days:

my car tax ran out and just simply had forgot to renew it, a fella at work pointed it out and when i got home i phoned up explained the situation and they just backdated it for me.

Or you could just mind your own business, our tax(es) aren’t going to reduce because you’ve shopped a few people saving money, ■■■■ the gvt, let their own tax collectors worry about it and you just worry about yourselves :unamused:
Personally, I have to stay legal, I’m the unluckiest person in the world and would get pulled before I got off my street, doesn’t mean I hold it against those who can get away with it.
Was talking to a lad before, his insurance on a Ford Ka 1.3 is over 3 grand (1st year driving - under 21yrs old), I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t pay that, and don’t give me all the ‘if they killed your family…’ bull crap stories, running a vehicle in this country is a RIP OFF and they should bring the cost of running back down, then put the punishment for running illegally up, so it works in the favour of those running legally, NOT AGAINST THEM.

Don’t become a grass.
Anyone that grasses someone up should be banned from the british isles for several years.
if you grass you should live in somalia, and have your balls eaten by ants.

I think people think they can get away with it and they try there chances because the punishment if caught isn’t no where as bad as driving with no insurance or even no MOT, correct me if I’m wrong though it’s been a long time since I looked

He must of already had points for it to be that high

Report an untaxed vehicle - GOV.UK

including checking the insurance database, however it doesn’t work on Lithuanian plated cars

Just a matter of time before those tax dodgers get their cars seized. It will happen. Hiding yer’ disc under the wiper means ■■■■■■ these days. The ANPR will get them eventually.

your talking like a [zb] cant afford to pay it do not drive take a bus no excuses for breaking the law … if it has to be paid it has to be paid simple … if all people who drive illegally with no insurance where 100% legal … the innocent people who get hit by the hit and run drivers with no licence or insurance are the ones that suffer jail all the [zb] who do not pay the road tax insurance mot etc … half of them who dont are unemployed but can still smoke have led tvs etc.

The tv police documentaries are quite funny, when they are sat in the back of the car and told they will check on the data base, but still try to convince the copper they have valid insurance.

I may have at times displayed an expired tax disc in my windscreen, doesn’t mean my car isn’t taxed, insured or MOT’d. You seem to think you can tell everything about a car from it, in reality it tells you nothing.

Mind your own business. :unamused:

Lots of these sorts on here, disappointing really. Anyone who is going to grass someone up needs to get a life. I cannot stand those who think it is their job to take an interest in everyone elses affair.

I know the legislation, failure to display is a summary offence, with a maximum level 1 fine, which means it has to go to magistrates court and you can be charged a maximum of £200. Check the vehicle excise and registrations act yourself if you like, it’s public sector information. If your vehicle is in fact, taxed, then it won’t be detected on ANPR, so the worst you will get is a quiet word in the ear by whoever pulled you over. Assuming you are polite and honest.

I am against displaying a physical tax disc in this age of computerisation, it’s old hat. I am also too lazy to open my tax disc holder because it has little screws and is a right fiddle to do.

I repeat. Mind your own business, you may not have all the facts.

Some drivers used to colour photocopy someone elses valid car tax, from a distance it looked ok.

What a load of bollox, I knew someone would come out with this crap.

People were avoiding insurance, tax, driving licences etc a LONG time before the prices went this stupid.

My 1st car insurance was around 300 quid per year for a brand new car, I now pay over 600 quid a year for a 12 year old diesel estate, fuel was in gallons not that much more expensive than it now is in litres, road tax (all cars paid it - and paid more than motorbikes unlike these days) was barely into 3 figures, it’s now 220 quid a year for a pre-2001 registered (decent engined) car, and more if registered afterwards and you’re not in with the boys - ie running a roller skate or a ‘hybrid’ - like they’re THAT good for the environment.
My motorbike now costs more in road tax than a Lexus 4x4 :unamused:

Sorry, I mean road fund licence - not tax…

Lots of people I speak to who are young these days, just passed test are paying well over 2 grand a year for a fiat roller skate or whatever, we weren’t even paying that for Renault 21 Turbo’s when I started driving.

As I said, the roads were less busy, I agree with that, but that means the money was coming from fewer places, yet it was cheaper - less cost x less vehicles = MUCH less money into the pot.

A tramper, goes to work at 4am on a Monday, comes home on a Friday or Saturday, costs of running a car are rediculous now, if I could get away without paying it, I bloody would, but I know I can’t, so I don’t.

It’s not even about being able to afford it as much as not wanting to get ■■■ raped by this ■■■■ hole of a country so they can give our money away to Pakistan, Ethiopia, USA, Germany, the EU, lazy scrounging doley’s, the disabled etc etc etc.

Stop charging us tax, make anyone who wants money off us have to ask for it, then let us choose who to give it to.
Get rid of fully comp insurance, so if a moron in a 1/4 million quid roller crashes it, and it’s his own fault, it costs him money.

i always keep my motors legal and laugh at people who get caught as much as i hate the cost of things its better to be legal

We just gave 5 million to Syria,no comment, could have built a hospital here for that dosh. :grimacing:

Spot on, agree 100%

My late dad was a stickler for paying everything on time, and that included his car tax. Imagine then my glee when I visited one day, his car’s on the drive displaying a tax disc that was a good two months out of date. Confronted him with the accusation of being a tight-fisted old Scrooge who dodged his taxes… predictably he bit and swore blind he’d paid it even before it had ran out. Cue a good ten minutes of dad-baiting.

Took him out to the drive, sure enough he had to admit the disc on the screen was well out of date. Mother then went to the cupboard where he kept all his paperwork, sur enough there was the envelope with the disc inside. He’d simply forgotten to put the new disc in.

I did similar meself on one of my bikes; only this time it was about six months after it was actually due when I noticed. This time i never did find the disc; for the rest of the year i carried a copy of the confirmation e-mail from when I’d taxed it on-line . Before you say owt I know it’s an offence not to display a disc, but it’d be a hard-hearted magistrate who nicked you if you’d paid.
