Exel being taken over by Deutsche Post

Merry Christmas one and all.

I had a letter reagarding my retirement plan with exel the other day regarding Exel being taken over by Deutshe Post (DHL)

Has anyone heard any more?

I just know it was announced in December the acquisition of Exel plc

Hope DHL will run the business better than Exel

When BRS was taken over by Exel the contracts went awol

you have heard more than me then. the only thing i have picked up about it has been from the trade magazines. maybe Exel, like so many other companies, dont think that employees need to know whats going on :imp:

I spoke to my mate earlier and he confirmed about DHL.

If you go to there website http://www.exel.com

It also confirms it

Last i read (possibly in the news section on here) is that the EU competition commision[sp] have just ok’d the merger.

I beleive this is what they’ve been waiting for.

However judging by the length of time it’s taken DP to integrate Securicor Omega, DHL (original), Danzas and the current freight operations it’ll be a long time before you see much happen.

They do tend to hang onto contracts though, at DHL Blue (old omega) we’ve still got Hayes Data express contracts, that firm hasnt existed for years!

DHL took over Exel on December 13 but obviously it will take time for the two companies to be integrated, although moves are already afoot at DHL Danzas in Birmingham to integrate with the import/export operations of Exel. All the staff of both companies now have to apply for their jobs and the “best” will be kept. DHL Danzas will also be renamed again to DHL Global Forwarding and will contain both DHL and Exel.

The Exel Logistics side will be renamed DHL Exel Logistics during 2006.

Yes it has all been done and dusted m8,we where just waiting on the Exel shareholder’s to accept the deal. The Exel boss stood to gain £5M in his pocket if shareholder’s accepted the deal. But now the (i)'s have been dotted and the (T)'s have been crossed it won’t be long til you see management running scared for their job’s,but please don’t think you as driver’s/warehouseman/woman are safe eventually they will notice that there are too many player’s in the dugout, and will start on them.

As i said earlier watch out at the bottom of the ladder as well.

I knew about EXEL being taken over by DHL months ago, loads of articles in newspapers. When it was officially reported that DHL had made an offer for the shares, my 2 bosses never, and still haven’t had a meeting with the drivers to tell them whats going on. All the info Ive managed to gleen from EXEL is via the picking depot I go to in Dronfield, which has been run by EXEL for years.

I hope DHL make a better boss than EXEL, as in my honest opinion, EXEL really do know how to take the **** . We were originally employed by Bartrums Distribution and Haulage, and they were bad enough, but you can expect companies run by father and son to be a bit hit and miss, and we all thought that when Tibbet and Britten took over the contract , working conditions might change for the better. How wrong we were, and EXEL are even worse than T&B.
Might be a pleasure seeing some of our bosses squirm for their survival, they certainly deserve to.

To be fair, it’s quite possible, no one has told them anything either.

likewise but the only thing we knew at work was from the newspaper cutting which stated that the takeover rumours were false and Exel was not in negotiations with anyone :unamused:

I put this up back in September

It’s a done deal, boys and girls, Deutche Post own it lock stock and barrel. Mind you, only very recently have they started looking into what was Securicor Containers; some Management has reportedly ( unconfirmed) gone from Southampton and Felixstowe. The worrying thing is that DHL have signed an agreement with an Agency to use all Polish Agency Drivers…God help the vehicles.
It must have taken two years to get the old name legally changed to DHL ( from SOCL), certainly as far as VAT man was concerned; and he rules

The worrying thing is that DHL have signed an agreement with an Agency to use all Polish Agency Drivers…God help the vehicles.

Find this statement very strange.Since DHL are to get rid off all Agency worker’s ( driver’s & warehouse worker’s) this including Owner Driver’s.

As for Southampton it would only be a matter of time before DP sorted them out, most of the management within the group have been living on borrowed time for a very long time. Some thought the company needed them, well they soon found out that they are like everyone else when it come’s to redundancies,( your a number)

i work for dhl out of barrow on gypsum contract, theyre good company to work for, recently backloaded out of exel at stanton nr bury st edmunds talkin to office staff there they became dhl as of 15th december, but says they will be called dhl exel. also said his missus works for tnt and they’ve been told dhl in for them as well.

but says they will be called dhl exel.

That won’t happen m8,as of a certain date Exel won’t excist,DHL bought Exel it was not an amalgamation. And to squash rumour’s that are doing the round’s at the moment,DHL vehicle’s will NOT be changing into Exel colour’s.Trust me on that one.

They may be named DHL Exel for a while, but eventually the vehicles will be resprayed and the exel graphics pealed off.

It would make sense to have an interim brand. Currently there is a lot of confusion among customers where one DHL vehicle might deliver one thing then another collect something else.
The number of times you meet other drivers who you have no idea where they’re from!

I’ve borrowed this quote off DHL’s website:

After the acquisition of Exel, Deutsche Post World Net will redesign the brand architecture for the Logistics Corporate Division. DHL will continue to be the global brand for all Express, Logistics and international Mail business divisions of the Group. The DHL businesses will be represented by five brand areas: DHL Express, DHL Freight and DHL Global Mail will remain unchanged whereas the Logistics Corporate Division will contain the brand areas DHL Exel Supply Chain and DHL Global Forwarding. They will replace the current brand areas DHL Solutions and DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.

The new DHL brand architecture will preserve the strength of the Exel brand in its contract logistics core business, while at the same time using the high international brand awareness of DHL. DHL Exel Supply Chain will be seamlessly integrated into the DHL corporate design. Deutsche Post World Net plans to implement the new brand architecture in the second quarter of 2006 following a transition period.

This is written in finest corporate webspeak but it states (as I wrote earlier) that Exel will become DHL Exel Supply Chain. I would expect to see exel trucks running with little red and yellow stickers soon.

Incidentally the exel operation reaches a long way. A former colleague of mine works (ed) for Exel looking after the Jaguar company car fleet.

Tell me about it Dennis. The number of times I have been to a customer who has got confused between DHL Danzas (who I sub for) and DHL Express. Sometimes the Express van picks up our freight which causes all sorts of problems and usually delays the airfreight shipment by a day whilst it is retrieved from their depot. We also get offered DHL Express freight sometimes.

In the 3 years since I’ve done this job the company name has gone from AEI to Danzas to DHL Danzas Air & Ocean and now DHL Global Forwarding. Still it keeps the printers busy. Some customers still refer to us as AEI.

Confusion - all in a days work!
