Exel being taken over by Deutsche Post

Cabhopper:
It’s a done deal, boys and girls, Deutche Post own it lock stock and barrel. Mind you, only very recently have they started looking into what was Securicor Containers; some Management has reportedly ( unconfirmed) gone from Southampton and Felixstowe. The worrying thing is that DHL have signed an agreement with an Agency to use all Polish Agency Drivers…God help the vehicles.
It must have taken two years to get the old name legally changed to DHL ( from SOCL), certainly as far as VAT man was concerned; and he rules

Yes, the traffic has moved from Southampton to Felixstowe, so all that’s left in Southampton is fleet maintenance, handing notes to and from drivers and that sort of stuff. The fleet has also been well cut back, and various others nw use the yard, including a driver training outfit who now have room to set up all their cones

It would make sense to have an interim brand. Currently there is a lot of confusion among customers where one DHL vehicle might deliver one thing then another collect something else.
The number of times you meet other drivers who you have no idea where they’re from!

Tell me about it Dennis. The number of times I have been to a customer who has got confused between DHL Danzas (who I sub for) and DHL Express. Sometimes the Express van picks up our freight which causes all sorts of problems and usually delays the airfreight shipment by a day whilst it is retrieved from their depot. We also get offered DHL Express freight sometimes.

In the 3 years since I’ve done this job the company name has gone from AEI to Danzas to DHL Danzas Air & Ocean and now DHL Global Forwarding. Still it keeps the printers busy. Some customers still refer to us as AEI.

Confusion - all in a days work!

Express is even split into two, Domestic and International.
If you want to send two packages, one to New York the other to Leeds, you get two different vans collect them! But to confuse things even more, International do some domestic work and if you send somthing to france it goes via domestic! utter chaos!
We in express do bulk deliveries, but if you send something on a pallet it goes through a completely different trunking network and is delivered by a different depot!
