Of course if you were more shrewd and you did come across one you could negotiate
I think if anyone sees one of these trailers and the reward on offer doesn’t meet what they think sending an email warrants, then the best thing to do is nothing.
As for a fair day’s money for a fair day’s work, I really can’t see the relevance unless you consider sending an email to amount to a day’s graft. As has already been said, there isn’t half some [zb] on this forum, complete with the typical lorry driver bad attitude.

1800 quid to recover 400k of assets is a joke.
Meanwhile back on Planet Earth no one is asking anyone to go recover assets. He’s offering a finders fee if you spot one and they can recover it. Get over yourself .

Let me get this straight, you are missing 300-400k worth of trailers that you can’t “find” and you are offering a paltry 1800 quid reward in TOTAL to get them back.Good luck with that one, try adding at least a zero to the reward and I may actually bother. Cheeky sods.
In defence of the op, they’ve spent 3/400k on trailers which they hired to a now insolvent Co, they’ve probably not been paid for quite a long period either so how much do you think they should pay to get THEIR trailers back? 50% of market value? Or maybe 20%?
Let’s not forget that Hireco probably have lots of ordinary men and women working for them who’s immediate future could be in jeopardy because of Debens actions. Now how much do you think is a fair amount?
Their business is renting out equipment, they do so for a profit, if their business model can’t handle bad debt collection or their customers going into insolvency then they shouldn’t be in the business they are in.
Asset recovery has a charge of 20%, that is the norm, if they want to put in an insurance claim the assets themselves if recovered loose 40% in value after being declared stolen and recovered.
You can’t have it both ways.
1800 quid to recover 400k of assets is a joke.
You wouldn’t drive a lorry and only get paid 5% of the going rate, why should you recover business assets for 5% of the going rate.
Plenty here have a go when someone undercuts their wages and takes a job for peanuts, and now you want to do the same to someone else. Their business has a cost, they are now trying to cut that cost so their profits can increase. Sod them. You are willing to partake in this scheme with no remuneration for you so that a business can earn a greater profit. Sod you.
If you are that gullible, you can take my tramping job, I will pay you 200 quid a week and pocket the rest. What is happening in this country that we are willing to work for peanuts so business owners can line their pockets.
A fair days pay for a fair days work, what is so wrong with that.
So by your logic the jewellers who lost valuables in the Hatton Gardens safety deposit box raid should have factored that into their business plan because they deal in valuable items so should expect them to be stolen?
I’m thinking the people who are questioning £150 are the same ones who would work 15hours then pull the card and wash the truck for less?
Moan moan moan typical wagon drivers. Money is crap blah blah blah. You’ll receive £150 for doing basically ■■■■ all but a 2 minute phone call.
Hi my name is Mr E Beaver.
I have an agency man contracted to drive my wagon tonight. I am offering a finders fee if you spot him.
He will probably be ripping the head off it at a MSA somewhere. A McDonalds coffee is the reward if you catch the tw*t.
Hes not asking anyone to hunt around for these trailers, nor is he wanting anyone to use their day off to snoop around yards and look for them either. He asked IF YOU SEE THEM to call or email him. And some of you are demanding about 2 grand? For a phone call lasting,what,5 minutes? Seems perfectly fair to me
Some of you must be on astronomical wages if £150 for a 5 minute phone call,or two minutes to type an email, is deemed an insult
No harm in looking for the bloke, some of these responses are crap,i hope they never want favours
its always made me laugh when it comes to trailers. They just seem so easy to take and keep yourself no reg docs etc and when it comes to have tested just dump somewhere or scrap it.
regards to these Deben trailers I have seen loads been pulled by their ex subbies who are obviously keeping them for non payment of work.
I hope you do manage to get most of your trailers back as its companies like Deben who thought they are the dogs then go ■■■■ up and take many people down with them.
no doubt the owners or some ex owners of deben have now set up in another name bloody low life’s.

Sorry but the OP is try to use the forum for asset recovery on the cheap.
These trailers most definitely are not stolen, in the criminal sense of the law. The OP’s firm may well technically have title of them but, as already mentioned, they are effectively held against unpaid debts.
If someone asks me to store, repair or do some other work on a vehicle, or trailer, and they then don’t pay for, as far as I’m concerned, any reason that vehicle will stay in my yard until the debt is settled and I’m not going out of my way to track down who has title in thing, if this means I end up out of pocket.
They can’t even run their business competently enough to know where their assets are so why are they more entitled than me to not end up out of pocket?
I used to feel that as truck drivers we all seem to pull in the same direction - ie doing a job which is seen by the public as the lowest of the low. But… Sometimes I think that there are a larger proportion of idiots behind the wheel.

Can see where your coming from in one sense but in another the OP does know, or did know, where they were - Debens had them. Now where Debby moved them about, OP can’t be expected to know that.
You’d think however as these are expensive that they’d have some form of tracker on them even if said device only active when attached to a tractor unit and powered up, they’d at least have an idea where it was last registered and seen
I don’t blame them asking for help, why not. If people don’t think reward enough then don’t do anything if you see one.

If they didn’t have proper insurance cover on the box contents my guess is said jewellers aren’t going to be the honest upstanding citizens you might think they are.

they are probably in subbies yards, who wont have been paid for work done. Said subbies will have been renting them from debens, they will not know who owns them but will think if debens owned them then they can hold them under what is known as a general lien
You cant put a lien on anything from a firm in insolvency especialy if they don’t own that asset. 400k for 12 trailers they where skellys not fridges, last one I brought new was a denison at 15k
weeks have gone by whoever had them will have thought of a place to get rid by now and cream up

I hire out trailers myself but not to people that then hire them out to someone else. You can keep track of where they are.
To some extent Deben were a business partner of Hireco if Deben were then hiring out trailers, they themselves had hired to subbies.
Don’t get me wrong if these had been lifted from someone’s yard, I’d have my eyes peeled with everyone else but, those whose posession these trailers are under were given possession of them by a business entity they were dealing with directly that now owes them money.

Theory and reality depart though. Say I had a trailer and whilst I had it the company went bust and the administrators know where it is. What happens is you get a series of huff and puff letters from administrators and then their solicitors. You just stonewall all these letters and never acknowledge if it is with you, or not.
You lock it away out of sight so they can’t be totally sure it’s there and they never, in my experience, spend the extra money to go and get a court order. Even then if someone did turn up to try and repo it, it would just so happen, to be 6ft in the air, with its wheels off on axle stands, where it just so happened to be when the company went bust and we abandoned work on it.
Happens the same the other way and bailiffs, including those working directly for HMRC, frequently cart off and sell stuff with outstanding finance.
