Ever parked up for the night and regretted it?

First time I stopped at Truck Haven, Carnforth, dark, winter time. Could well have been a weekend so not too busy. I was late in & tired and unusually just went straight to bed.
Turns out that, without realising I’d parked right next to the designated change over area and all of a sudden it was being well used.

Still on paper charts in those days and was before we were asked to leave them in at night so had pulled it. Slipped into the seat in my under crackers, pulled the curtains back and trundled off up the top end. Ahhh, peace at last.

Many bikers are truck drivers too. Me for a start.

Mid 80’s on Swifts I parked on Broadstairs lorry park, a huge place and I was the only one there all night, very creepy :open_mouth:

Hmm knowing Broadstairs very well indeed I’m trying to think where Broadstairs lorry park actually is. Are you sure you weren’t parked on the beach. Theres no lorry park in Broadstairs.

Broadstairs Lorry & Coach park is in Vere Road, nice and quiet once the day trippers coaches have left and only 2 minutes walk to pubs, shops and cafes.

The layby next to Tata steel in Scunthorpe. A bit hairy at midnight with poofters lurking in the bushes. “do you fancy some relief before bedtime” I was asked few weeks back.

many years ago a gang of us would hire a van and go camping , anyway we ended up at torquay and as it was rather late we decided to park up in the multistory and headed off to find a club (the golden butterfly iirc). we get back to the van and settle down with the rear doors open as it was summer. about 20 mins later all hell broke loose ! it was like brands hatch with boy racers tearing up and down with screeching tyres and horns blaring .

was the bike rally at a pub near kirby muxloe near cat factory ?,if it was i passed it,and yer,it was chocka with bikers lol :stuck_out_tongue:

My worst ever have been the last lay bye on the A3 just before the M25 i know i should know better but there really was no choise and the large area next to the check point at stirling why would anyone want to squeeze between me and the nettles there was some much coming and going ,properly more coming actually that i moved on (about 270 miles)down the road.

Vere Road coach park is in fact a errrr coach park not a designated lorry park unless that’s changed in recent years. I lived a stones throw from it for a while.

I have parked overnight there a couple of times, was a few years ago before I retired. Directed there by a traffic warden the first time. Council website list it as Coach and HGV Parking.

Every time I actually got so tired I had no choice but to go to bed. When I woke up the next morning something always went wrong, if it wasn’t crazy traffic it was the sodding ministry or the BAG or whoever was out to cause me problems in whichever country I was in.

Night time is the right time.

I can understand how a total non rider can associate motorcycles with the ■■■■■■ deviancy of their choice, but I find it hard to understand how the average truck driver could ever have a problem with them !

Are you an average truck driver, or are you a closet homosexual ?

Some signs to look for are skull & crossbones bandanas & red polka dot neckerchiefs.

Good luck & I’m sure your mother will still stand by you. ■■■

Somebody has had too much to drink. And if you wrote this post sober then good luck and I’m sure your mother will stand by you ■■■

My worst place to stop for the night was the Flying J in Dodge City, Kansas, right next to a slaughter house, the parking area filled up with cattle trucks during the night, the noise and the stench was terrible.
My scariest was just last Monday night, I had loaded in NYC and was sleeping in the street for the afternoon and leaving at 11.00pm for a night drive northward, I had got up and was sitting in the driving seat logging in when I noticed a black car with the windows blacked out and the lights on parked about 100 yards away facing me, it moved slowly towards me, then shot to the end of the lane, in the mirror I watched it turn around and slowly come alongside my cab, I avoided direct eye contact and pretended to be typing, the car sped off. Remembering that I was in fact parked in avery rough area of the Bronx I decided to do a quick walk round to check everything and leave asap. Back in my cab doing a pre trip report and getting ready to leave the car re-appears and drives right up to my drivers door, in my periferal vision I see the rear window going down and I moved into the sleeper to see it shoot to the end and start to turn round once more, I jumped in the driving seat and pulled out in front of it, the dar followed me untill I got into a mains route where there were lots of cars and people, it then did a ‘U’ turn and vanished.
Gangs in NYC as in lots of places have an initiation where the new member has to shoot a random person for no reason other than to prove they can kill at will, I have talked about the incident with the locals and all say it seems I had been selected to be a victim. Happy to be alive and will be more weary in future.

:open_mouth: I reckon that just about top-trumps anything on this thread Pat, it sure puts my biggest fears of getting my diesel nicked by “those that should not be mentioned” to a poor second :unamused: . The scariest thing is that most gang related trends from the US, are eventually emulated by kid’s gangs over here, such as knives, guns etc.

Whoa! That gave me a little shiver reading that :open_mouth: What a horrible thought, glad you’re okay!

The 5 lorries parked up at jacks hill cafe surrounded by a sea of bikes this morning could be regretting it.
Or possibly not, you don’t get your own free bike show everyday
