No ■■■■■■■■ about ‘there’s more to it.’ If that’s the basic wage it’s an insult for the responsibility involved.
What exactly is the responsibility involved, its point and steer, not rocket science is it?
Not forgetting all that specialist left hand drive continental experience and the fluent German requirement, which isn’t going to be much use in France , and then there’s the super demanding border clearance requirement to worry about .All that must be worth at least £2,500 per week considering that they’re obviously looking for the best of the very best highest levels of experienced, specialist, european drivers, who’ve been doing the job since the day they were born if not before.
I think you need to get over the fact you never did continental work and stop trying to convince yourself of the reasons why. A Dutch company asking for LHD experience is hardly bs elitism as you call it. They clearly just want to stick someone in the truck and wave them off.
Just like my first employers did you mean when they gave me an almost 40 ft long,38 tonner, centre drive,10 foot wide, fire truck to take through Feltham high street having never driven anything more on the road than the right hand drive driving school wagon that I’d recently just passed my test on.
Although having said all that it still leaves that issue of the language barrier let alone that major problem of border clearance to sort out. Although look on the bright side the job doesn’t seem to involve the possibility of exploding grapes which might explain why it only pays £500 per week instead of £2,500.
No point telling me that old bean I think Eurowork is easier than UK. I just find it comical how you get all uppity at an advert for a job you’ve no interest. Would an advert for multi drop drivers that asked for multi drop experience be elitist bs?

That’s the issue.I don’t think there’s anything like as many barriers put up by the employers against new inexperienced drivers in the case local/uk multi drop and/or building materials deliveries etc etc compared to International work. But yes I think the whole issue of so called ‘experience’ bs is elitist wherever it’s used as a barrier. The reason why I’m interested in pointing out the content of the advert,is because it confirms exactly the type of bs elitism, that I’ve complained about, having always applied,in that sector of the industry more than most others and which can damage the career progression of many drivers who are unlucky enough to be caught up by it.The fact is every euro driver had to make their first trip and just get on with dealing with the different requirements of that sector of the industry at some point. However the fact that too many employers,in that sector,as in this case, don’t seem to take account of that fact is,as I’ve said, just elitist bs.
I’d wager that most people that wanted to do Europe got to do Europe. It’s actually not that hard to get into. In fact my first euro truck driving job was after I’d been a truck driver for 18 months driving a LHD which I’d never driven before for a Dutch company. It really isn’t as hard as you think it is to get into. Well, it is if you let a advert put you off.

So you’re saying that the conditions given in the advert are just bs and have just been put there for no reason and that drivers with uk only experience would actually be accepted regardless of the advert’s clear requirements .

I’m saying there’s no harm in applying even if you don’t fit all the criteria. Often a driver who does so will just catch someone’s eye and they’ll take a punt on you. This is how I got into european, and I’d wager how may others did the same. You clearly just give up too easily. Most companies put stuff like this, doesn’t mean they won’t consider others who happen to be in the right place at the right time. If you can get as far as an interview sometimes enthusiasm will top experience. And often they won’t have enough applicants that tick all the boxes so move down the list. That’s where you’d come in and get lucky.

Experience tells me that’s bs in the majority of cases and I don’t buy it.I’ll just stand by the accusation that it’s a sector of the industry that’s subject to a closed shop using bs elitist conditions at the recruitment stage and that advert is yet more evidence that confirms that view.
Oh for gods sake Carryfast all you’re trying to do is justify your own failures to get a job in this area. I’m telling you it’s a FACT that I got the job by ignoring the companies ‘requirements’ and taking a chance. And I know many others got started the same way. How the hell do you think anyone gets started on this work if you think what you say is true? Go on, I’m listening.
The sooner you just accept the fact you didn’t get the job you wanted so much because you simply didn’t try hard enough the sooner you’ll get over it. Closed shop my arse. You think I got in by knowing a funny handshake?
I hate it when a thread goes like this, it becomes 2-3 people having a slanging match and quotes long enough to ski jump off, you suddenly don’t want to say anything for fear of being sucked in…

You’re as bad as the rest of them, why don’t you eff off you idiot…
Please take this tounge in cheek! At least weare back talking about the original post!

For what its worth I agree sometimes you’ve got to take a chance, the worst you get told is to go away!

I didn’t say that I never ignored those ‘requirements’ at the enquiry stage. The bit that matters is that ‘sometimes’ ( in very rare cases ) it’s possible to find guvnors who don’t mind ignoring those requirements given to them by those above them.Because they know that they’re being asked to apply bs elitist recruitment policies.
What happens next all depends on how much discretion and autonomy that guvnor has in being able to ignore those recruitment requirements. As such maybe you’re giving yourself more credit than you’re due by actually thinking that it was all about your own efforts as opposed to just luck.
I’d say that exactly the same type of issue would be the deciding factor in this case and going by the the wording of the advert I’d say that a uk driver, with no previous euro experience, would have about as much chance as I did. Therefore bs elitist closed shop absolutely but that doesn’t mean I’m saying it takes a funny handshake.Just luck with the odds stacked massively against.Nothing more nothing less than that.
Just chance your arm for once in your life carryfast. I’d only realy driven tipper lorrys round London and ended up in Canada driving a lhd lorry in distance work do you honestly think I said I’d only driven a tipper lorry round London.
It’s things like this that make me glad I was born with the ability to drive everything, speak every language and know every formality. It certainly bypassed all the elitest bs. I mean the cheek of it all wanting someone with experience of the job.

If you can’t see the responsibility, maybe you should find a job you understand properly?
So were do you see the massive responsibilities in the job?
The ad calls for a set of skills, which some people may feel is not being rewarded by the salary offered, but no mention of responsibilities, maybe you should learn what words actually mean before spouting ■■■■ on the internet.
They are advertising for a experienced driver who can handle a LHD truck , pay 500 quid a week , and be able to converse or understand German ?
Wheres the elitist bs in that exactly ?
My CV says i can do 2 out of the 3…never did German at school , but then after 20 odd years driving , and 10-15 off them in and around Europe , getting over the language barrier has never been an issue . As Luke said , sometimes you have to take a chance , i did , went from driving a TK Bedford on UK work to a Volvo F10 going to Spain every week literally overnight ! Passed HGV 1 test on the Friday , shipped out on the Sunday…the rest is history

CF, I don’t want to get my head bitten off here, but what Luke Is saying Is correct…
I also know a lot of drivers that Ignored the requirements & applied for the job & some of them got the job…
Sometimes It’s a case of being In the right place (or wrong place) at the right time…
I personally got Into International transport by accident… I was asked by my boss If I had a passport & would I fancy a run out to Gent (B) & I said OK, but I had to pick my passport up at home first…
I’d never driven a truck on the Continent before, but had the guts to give It a go…
