Euro driving

Alright lads, I’ve managed to snag myself a new job with a music touring company. I have zero Euro driving experience whether its in a car or a truck. The company are going to attach me to a fairly large tour when I start so I can be with people who know the score but I still like to be prepared for it.

Any information about everything and anything Euro driving related would be much appreciated.

Drive on the right.

Radar, i know bugger all about euro, just wanted to offer you congrats on getting the gig, well done :sunglasses:

On a serious note watch out at roundabouts and junctions as the near side mirror/pillar (in the UK) can cause blind spots.

Be friendly with the more experienced guys. They will help. Listen to them.

The driving side isn’t much different to over here. If anything it runs better and you’ll soon get used to it. Be careful in cities as I’m sure a lot of events will be in central locations which can cause problems if unprepared

Personal favourite of mine is Brussels central. I spent so much time getting messed about in there with random protests and random closures and weight limits that I used to dread the place but now I could confidently say I know my way around Brussels better than I know my way around London.

Practice blind side reversing as most places will be set up for left hookers, when overtaking check and check again and beware when turning right onto a quiet road that you go over to the left, easily done to go straight onto the right hand side and not realise until you’re about to have a head on.

Some great info on luke’s youtube channel .He goes through ferrys and euro tunnel etc .

Confused with this post, surely you would go onto the right hand side of the road as you drive on the righ?

Lol sorry got me lefts and rights mixed up there just left for right and vice versa

it will be like rideing a bike for you or a duck to water, good luck and enjoy, that type of work is a walk in the park always running in packs

Well done bud! I hope it lives up to your expectations!

Get some language apps , Iam OK in France n Germany but I don’t think I’ll ever get Italian !

Money. Universal language of Italy

Edit: Actually it’s a universal language everywhere

You’ll be absolutely fine, euro work is a piece of ■■■■, much better than UK and running with others they will see you right

After the initial panic and apprehension you will find it less stressful than UK work .
The added bonus is that on most music gigs they have crews to pack and unpack the kit , all you do is supervise .
A marker on the dash top or screen as a reminder to keep right can be useful.
Remember your sight lines change at junctions and roundabouts, motorway exits are usually much tighter bends than the UK , obey the speed limits .
They have markers at the side of motorways to show the gaps between vehicles most countries require a two marker gap . The French are very keen on this !
They also have spacing rules and speed restrictions in tunnels, some as much as 100mtr gaps .
Have a look on line as most guides are on there .
The other guys will put you right on tolls etc .
You can and will be pulled by all sorts of officials, Police , Border guards, customs and vehicle inspectors , be polite and truthful and don’t take chances .

Hopefully its a LHD theyre giving you, the blind spot mentioned wont then exist. In any case, a 2hr stint will see you right and you’ll think nothing of it.
Edit- if its RHD, at junctions always think to keep kerbside and you wont go wrong. Good luck in your new job…

Good luck with the new job.
Watch out for “priority a droit” in French towns. Applies on the Paisian Periferique too. Traffic entering from the right has right if way if there are no other signs. Traffic slipping onto the main Paris inner ring road has priority over traffic already on it. Lovely!

Keep your doors locked through Calais, and don’t park within that area to avoid unwanted guests.

Yep. Same applies more or less to all ports now, and many main routes leading to ports from a couple of hundred kms away.

I’m a bit behind the times now Franglais, it was 9 yrs ago last time I was over in a truck, all the more severe ■■■■ that goes on now hadn’t really kicked off as much then.
Dunkerque was always a safer option, but I suppose that’s maybe as bad now is it? :unamused:
