Keep your doors locked through Calais, and don’t park within that area to avoid unwanted guests.

Yep. Same applies more or less to all ports now, and many main routes leading to ports from a couple of hundred kms away.

I’m a bit behind the times now Franglais, it was 9 yrs ago last time I was over in a truck, all the more severe [zb] that goes on now hadn’t really kicked off as much then.
Dunkerque was always a safer option, but I suppose that’s maybe as bad now is it? :unamused:

Apparently they are down to Spain now getting on the ferries from there. As security gets tighter in one place they move elsewhere. They’ve gotten into vehicles around LeMans, Tours, and anywhere north of Reims is suspect for overnight stops. There are some Restaurants off the main routes that are OK, but you’ve gotta be careful everywhere now.
Edit. .
Couple of times recently they’ve been getting in through the trailer roof. Very difficult to check that. Port security found them but load (foodstuffs) was compromised. Don’t panic about fines for immigrants too much. If you can show you are being careful you won’t be fined. Don’t take precautions and you could be in trouble. It’s mostly just common sense.

Yeh I had a couple cut through the roof of a Euroliner once.
One of the FEW things I don’t miss about going over.
I’d always planned (and tried) to go back on it (for the right company) but got a steady number now on UK work, so won’t be back anytime soon I reckon…unless things go ■■■■ up with it anyway.

I had two get in a gap between the bed of the trailer and the load on a semi trailer queuing on the dual carriageway into Bilbao. I drove through the first gate and then stopped short of the check in booths and they then jumped off when the Police came.

Then whilst waiting on the side of the water another one had got into the port and was checking out the lorries in front of me before I beeped my horn and off he ran followed by the Police but once he jumped a few concrete walls he was gone

Well done on the job Radar,
Really not too much to worry about and mostly been covered here, as you’re part of a tour you’ll have plenty of people to ask for advice and help you out.

I reckon once you get the first part done you’ll love it, as well as Luke’s stuff on You Tube checkout some of Mat Ireland’s stuff.
He does come from Suffolk, but doesn’t seem too bad a chap despite that.

One of the reasons I never fancied touring or doing motorcycles was the fact that I am a loner at work, on this type of work you are tied to a group, if you’re a bit slow or miss a Junction the experienced men won’t want to babysit.

Besides your lorry will have the teabags and kettle [emoji14]

Theres always plenty who just blindy follow the guy in front, or are to scared to take the junction when the guy in front misses it.

Ask questions and get ansewrs, the older/experienced guys are great for learning the ropes and the dos and donts.

I personally like running on my own, and can quite often do, even if it’s a group of trucks running to the same circuit.
I’ve found that a group of truck drivers running their own schedule is more efficient, provided everybody knows when they’re supposed to get to the event and they can be trusted to do that.
However I’ve don’t have a problem running with an inexperienced driver, especially if they’re straight with me and tell me they new to the job, after all we were all there once.
I understand they might be slower through some places and to keep them in sight at certain places where they might take the wrong turning, I don’t think new drivers generally will annoy the experienced ones, unless they’re the “know it all” type.

Congrats.

I drive a puddle jumper through Spain a few years back and after 10 mins it felt as natural as driving over here and that was a right hand drive vehicle I imagine a left ■■■■■■ is easier once you get used to being on the opposite side.

It is…junctions/ overtaking ect are so much easier, having said that a RHD isnt so bad as long as you keep your wits about you…
