But you’re obviously not talking about meeting EU standards for stuff sold THERE.You’re talking about EU rule being applied to domestic government policies and what’s sold HERE.As for which standards do we obey feel free to explain which ‘standards’ that New Zealand goes by.Here’s a clue they aren’t bound by EU standards regarding domestic government policy or anything sold ‘THERE’

What is the point is Nissan producing one type of engine for the UK and another for the EU? Two standards equals two lots of expenses.
What is the point of us having clean factories if competitors have dirtier, cheaper ones?
What is the point is us having ethically, humanely raised farm animals if cheaper factory farmed produce is imported without tariffs, and how can we sell our better, but more expensive food if we are competition with others?

We do not exist in a bubble.

And we are are no longer at the hub of an Empire where we get to set the rules in our favour. To have real influence we need to participate not wander off in a sulk, and expect to be pandered to.

No one said that Nissan has to produce two different standards at all.It can carry on producing EU compatible vehicles just as DAF can go on ‘assembling’ EU compliant DAF’s.So why should any of that stop us importing DOT/Aus compliant Peterbilts or Kenworths.Or for that matter EU compliant Ford Mustangs without them being hammered by EU taxation ?. :unamused:

It’s clear that the definition of EU Federal state status means being subservient to foreign imposed rule not ‘participating’ in anything.Just the way that control freak Federalists like it.So tell us what’s wrong with the same relationship with the EU that NZ has ?.

Went out on a little sortie to Lee on the Solent at lunchtime today as you do, there is a tiny café no more than 20ft x 20ft in size we had a mug of tomato soup and one of tea, plus a small platter of a sausage and about 20 chips and two rock cakes all for a smidgeon over a fiver which in todays world is extremely reasonable.
While there I noticed some construction work was being done so got out of the car and read the explanatory board on the fence a photo of which is below and apparently it is an under the channel power supply from France, my question is why can we not make enough power here and what happens if we do leave the EU, will they just pull the plug or is this another myth about not trading with the UK. It does say it will make our power supply cheaper but I cannot see Macron letting us have a bargain especially when they wont be able to fish in our waters just cant see that happening at all, just wondering that’s all, Buzzer.

It won’t seem so cheap when one of their idiotic nuclear power plants along the Channel coast goes bang with a South Westerly wind blowing. Also electricity prices are a lot more expensive having tied ourselves to expensive French nuclear fired imports than safer cheaper UK coal fired electric generation.Remind us who’s rules said that we musn’t use coal.

So, coal is a viable long term option? Fair enough.
Coal? For the foreseeable future? Seriously?

i hope you had a nice lunch. i hope you just enjoyed the café, the food, the company . . . just enjoyed the experience of going out.
Can’'t you enjoy it without poking about whatever construction work’s going on?

A lot more foreseeable future than that which the next big nuclear disaster could create for Europe and a lot less expensive. Also didn’t see anything in the ‘rules’ stopping the use of coal fired power stations which said anything about it’s future viability.

So there we have it the EU’s foreseeable future,is the choice between nuclear disaster or a war of federal aggression whichever happens first. All based on making the same mistakes as before in history and expecting a different outcome.

Coal use is affected by the UK signing the Paris Accord I expect.

Bloody hell dexxy57 the construction site was in part of what was the car park overlooking the Solent it was not that I went on an expedition just to survey a construction site, strikes me by the input of your posts you only ever read others contributions and the then make derogative comments to the effect you must glean some sort of pleasure trying to belittle the content, think everyone on here can see right through you so if you want to be credible post something constructive, Buzzer.

More like EU dictat with the obvious intention of making us dependent on EDF imports and French/Chinese new build nuclear here.Although Germany has conveniently exempted itself.Who would have thought it.

Bearing in mind that the more nuclear plants we use the more the odds increase that one of them will go bang.Or the dumped nuclear waste will leak if not poison an unsuspecting population in around 1,500 years time.

We export RDF (waste) to europe where they burn it for energy , shouldn’t we be building more plants over here to do the same thing?

We export RDF (waste) to europe where they burn it for energy , shouldn’t we be building more plants over here to do the same thing?

So long as we produce waste that needs burying or burning? Then why not burn it to produce something useful such as energy? Why burn diesel to export it?
Are we asking the same questions?
.
Looks better to do it here, to me.
.
I’m sure a lot will be happy to have such a plant built…but…
Not In My Back Yard. Is that why we don’t have enough of them?

There are more around than you are aware of then but we still pay a fortune to export it. Apparently when we can produce SRF to the quality required we can sell it!!!

All those French rural retreats and the average towns are full of waste incinerator plants. All built next door to welcoming residents. The hypocrisy of ex pats saying ‘we’ and ‘my back yard’ when they don’t actually want to live here is laughable.

So tell us why would you want build the things in anyone’s ‘back yard’ when there are huge areas of the country which are an under developed under populated waste land.Especially in the border areas.Oh wait you still don’t want to create CO2 by transporting the crap so you’d rather burn the stuff in highly populated areas where it’s created. So in Franglais’ brave green world ( you know the one that you don’t want to live in yourself ) not only does the South East get all the people, airports, roads and houses it’s also choked by waste incinerator plants, including burnt plastics toxins,to go with the risk of nuclear meltdown.Bearing in mind that unlike us at least the French have somewhere to run and as usual those calling NIMBY are the same ones living the most underpopulated unaffected areas ( like France and Northumbria ). :unamused:

A few weeks ago Plans were submitted to Sunderland Council to build a waste burning energy plant next door to the Nissan factory but the Nmbys and the local councillors managed to persuade the planning committee to refuse them. The same people who are complaining about landfill, where do they expect their rubbish to go.
In the seventies Gateshead Council built and operated a large incinerator which was demolished about 10 years ago. The stats are there to show a concentration of cancer sufferers in a specific area just downwind of the plant. The feeling is the chimney was not high enough.

If burning the stuff ( plastics ? ) creates highly carcinogenic emissions then it’s obvious that it’s what they burning not how they are burning it.A higher bleedin chimney won’t fix that problem it will just move it further down the road. While putting it on the coast is the next best option which still means stopping operations when the wind is blowing inland and are highly carcinogenic chemicals being chucked into the atmosphere what we really want regardless of the where when and how we do it.Might as well include diesel emissions in that as opposed to less harmful petrol/LPG emissions. But saving lives is so much less important than saving money. On that note there’s not much point in going to all the effort of filling the recycling bin if they are then just going to poison people by burning the stuff when we’ve done it. :unamused:

The Gateshead plant was supposed to be state of the art when it opened in the mid seventies. It just burned rubbish no power generation. The bin wagons would tip the rubbish straight into the bays and it was then fed straight into the burner hopper. Nothing was sorted, everything was burned.
The ash was stored in another hopper and then sent to landfill. Metals such as cans would be separated and baled but a lot of the cans would still have their labels on, not even charred.
Tyneside

If I’ve read it right Franglais is an incinerator supporter.NIMBY’s yeah right. So how close to Edmonton does Franglais live. :unamused:

Not sure whats going on here, they dont burn landfill waste in the burners they burn RDF which is the filtered residue after sorting. There is a process where wood plastic metal and other recycables are removed , there are things not suitable for the burner , mattresses and tyres to name two and the RDF must meet certain industry standards. We were/are exporting waste at a cheaper price to Sweden , Norway , Germany and Holland than landfilling it. Our local landfill closed last year but the cost to tip there was £97 per ton £86 of that went to the inland revenue the cost to export was averaging around £80 a ton includling transport. There are burners being built at a rate now the penny has dropped

If they aren’t burning wood/board/plastics/recyclables then what is left to burn ?.
