ERF in Europe

I can never understand how ERF imagined they could compete on mainland Europe period! The Continentals were years ahead, unfortunately,so why bother when they(ERF) were struggling in the UK once the imported vehicles from the Europeans started to make inroads.Just my opinion others will no doubt hold an opposite view.Cheers Bewick.

This thread is proving to be quite a valuable resource. Some good research here! Robert

On Leonard Green (Haulage) Ltd. a lot is posted on the thread “Leonard Green Transport” with
quite some remarkable highlights of David M. Green, grandson of the founder.

Davidoff:
I moved to Switzerland in Oct 2004, by which time I don’t think there was much left of ERF representation in Switzerland unfortunately.

In fact, I think this is probably the only marque of which I have NEVER seen a unit in Switzerland. I know one or two ex-Friderici Kenworths still doing local work, I know of at least two Fodens still around (also ex-Friderici), one is an ex-artic with a crane doing roofbuilding. Some firestations still have the odd Maggie D or old-generation air-cooled IVECO.
I even know of an old Renault R370 (yes with the V8) still in occasional service.
Obviously there are still some Saurers and Bernas knocking about as well.

But much as I would love to know of any surviving unit, I really don’t know of any EFR anywhere in Switzerland.

I do however have some fairly okay contacts with local dealerships including some old hands, they might be able to help me.

You may not see me posting a response on this tomorrow. But you have ignited a spark of curiosity in a curious and doggedly stubborn mind so you might see me bumping this thread up when you no longer expect it.
Same goes for Sarlat la Canéda in my native Dordogne. I will be there the week of April 20th and I already know the lad I am going to ask who would have been involved with ERF. If anybody knows, it’ll be him.

Cheers

Hi Davidoff. When you see him, show him this picture of a Swiss-registered ERF NGC (one of two I know of) to jog his memory. Robert

Afternoon Gentlemen,

Just a quick thought on the Swiss market.

When the PSA lorry business came into RVI , along with the products came a network of Dealer/Distributors. One that I remember well was Nubag AG, former Chrysler/Dodge outfit.

I did quite an amount of work with them on drop frame Serie J for the Swiss Coca Cola operation. Often out on the road we would see B Serie ERFs. All were ■■■■■■■ powered. I was told that they had been supplied by H Emil Frey, who as some may know had been the Austin Importer for many years, and also were a coachbuilder, and constructor of some note. The vehicles themselves had a strong reputation, but importation had suddenly stopped.

Amazing the bits of memory that come into ones head at odd times. Enjoy Sunday, what is left of it. I am going back to my Greenhouse construction!

Cheerio for now.

There are several pics on the LHD B-series thread showing blue and white units of R+R Fries AG. Robert

A good crop then! Plus the 2 NGCs gives us eight Swiss ERFs.
