ERF 'European' (1975)

Colin Wallace, one of our ‘army’ of ERF NGC contributors posted this amusing item on another thread this morning!

IMG_8589.PNG

I would add the riders that:

  1. The item is in dollars
  2. The image, though very good, is a slightly inaccurate computer-generated 3D image (discussed on this thread some time ago and critiqued by zbanorak here: trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewto … start=4950)
  3. The ERF logo is from a later period when the E-series came in (the logo of that period was the one on the radiator grille on the T-shirt! )

Fun though!

It was a demo unit based with Beech’s Garage in Stoke. Grocott had it on demo for a while and sent it to the Middle East. Beresfords bought it and for a while operated it out of Le Havre on French plates. It ended up in the Middle East again with Trans Arabia Fleet No.125).

Old pic of the Eyckmanns unit in Belgium.

Eyckmans’ ERF probably during the last days in service when I look at the ‘indicators’ more below…

Better to risk success than to guard against failure, I say!

NMP and when I am not wrong, not shared here?

Nice try! But all those are on here. Don’t give up though! :sunglasses:

One of the C.A.M.E.L. (Cunard) fleet doing ‘internals’ out of Jeddah in Saudi. It was, I think, snapped by a ‘round tripper’ Bromilow driver. The complete pic is on this thread somewhere.

Good man! :sunglasses:

Well, fellow Europeans, I’m sure it won’t be Loste on you that the world moves on apace and that we live in Longhope of more stability. Ijssel be happier when better times come, I can tell you! All these Covid ■■■■■■■ and goings get you down. Well Damco vid! We need all Hans on deck. Let’s be Chris Till clear: we need to fight them on the Beach’s! It’s our duty to arise each morning, eat Estra Horridge, rub Vick into our chests and go to work on an ERF. It’s the ePittemy of good citizenship – the Best, in fact. As you Read this, it’ll Sjouw you how we should proceed to lead Fuller lives and enjoy Ferdom of expression. I’ll bet you a pound to a pinch of C.A.M.E.L. droppings, the results will be Van Ommeran! It’ll be a tough Cookie, but we can move Pountains to achieve this without shedding a TIR. Hye think that just about Cauvas it for now.

The Fuller RTX Roadranger was probably the ultimate 9-sp 'box. So here’s an idle thought for a Sunday evening. Given that some ERF NGCs lasted even unto the late '80s, were any of them ever gearbox-upgraded to the later Fuller RTX 11609, as fitted to C-series and E-series ERFs? That would have been some mean machine!

Or to take the issue (fantasy, really) a tad further, if an NGC were re-engined with a ■■■■■■■ 350 (and we know that at least one was), could it easily be re-gearboxed with an RTX 14609 as fitted to some E-series ERFs with ■■■■■■■ 400 engines. I doubt if it would be rocket science to do so.

Thank you! That cutting must be from the late '60s. We have pictures of that tipper with a 3MW cab on the LHD 5MW thread. Technick NV of Dordrecht must have preceded Best Imports in the ERF low-countries arena.

ERF-NGC-European:
With regard to the one below: if it is indeed with a fairground operator at the time of being photographed, it may well be that the livery is a showman’s one and so it may not reflect any general haulage company in France. The livery may prove to be a bit of a red herring unless we can find out which showman operated it!

As frequently was the case…perhaps a Vermeulen-unit ended in France with a fairground operator.

Vermeulen as a business was taken over by a regional heavy haulage company, the name does not pop-up now
