… The Scania under the wrap was a L36 by the way.

Not in 1973 it wasn’t. The 36 was replaced by the 50 in '69 or 70, IIRC.

Is it one of these?
Edit-just looked again and I don’t think so lol

I’ve been ploughing through this thread, looking for more pics of that 1973 Brussels Show stand. So far, nothing, but what a great read!

Hey,

It’s the Motor show of 1973 in Brussels, so the Scania must be an L80/85 or 110 (looks at the mirrors still the small ones), so not an 1 serie, which was shown at Brussels in 1975 which had the blue strip instead of the red in the yellow cab. The blue strip came in 1974 with the new cab for the bonneted ones, but still called 110, for the LB some things were changed as the headlamps in the grille ans some other things. But to the end of 1974 de LB 110 got already the 111 engine under the same cab, only the badge changed from 110 to 111.

And a happy new year for 2019, to all of you on the site here.

Hey,
That pic must be of the beginning of the '50’s till '55. So it’s a L40 or 50 serie’s because it shows only 12 tons gross, but can be a L60 or 71 to, I can’t verify the length of the bonnet because of misty picture, but 12 tons gross for a 6 cil L60 or 71 would be a bit low.

Eric,

Eric,

The picture (the original is presented in the book) is from 1949 when Denoville showed quite
some examples from both Scania-Vabis and White…the vehicles of Vandergoten and Erkens
have survived, respectively now in Vilvourde/Couvin and in Germany.

Attached a quite rare badge from Scania Vabis with in the centre Denonville-Bruxelles.

Happy New year in West Flandres

Yes only for a small time used, if Denonville assembled them self to avoid high import taxes, you have them with Beers too on them for the Netherlands.

Happy New Year and thanks for the alert, John. I take it you are referring to FB so I’ll see if our NGC army can uncover further details. Cheers, Robert

Yes, indeed it is, so you’re spot on! This pic first appeared on TN very early on the Scrapbook thread. It was of course the NGC with the trial big-cam 290 ■■■■■■■■ Cheers,

Robert

Just been on google images of NGCs 'cos occasionally I find new ones! However, I was aghast to find dozens of pictures of NGCs mis-labelled ERF 7WMs! I do hope this hasn’t lost us too many leads and contacts. Mercifully, ERF didn’t produce anything with a WM suffix (I checked the table provided by our resident archivist). They should, of course, be referred to as ERF NGC ‘Europeans’ or ERF NGCs with 7MW cabs (ERF NGC / 7MW for short) to allow for the handful of drivers who referred to NGCs as 7MWs in the past, simply to distinguish them from 5MWs . But never 7WM! I notice too that a certain model company is selling its wares with the same inaccurate name. Beggars belief! :open_mouth: Robert

Thanks John, you are right! I had a look. It’s only a few seconds glimpse but it’s there right enough at close quarters and pulling a proper trailer!

The clip is made by Dave MacDonald Productions and is called ‘ERF Gathering 1989’ from its Classic Footages series. Here is the link:

PV83 just popped this pic on the Saviem thread. It is the more complete view of a picture we’ve had before, showing the French ERF NGC, registration 4644FX94, the draw-bar outfit belonging to La Fleche Marseillaise of La Talaudiere (dept. 42). I include a front view to jog memories and for context. Robert

Both vehicles look as if they are at the end of their lives. Judging by the badges on the Unic, it is a later one-closer to 1975 than 1970.

  1. What are those odd fixings around the front panel of the ERF, I wonder?

  2. The Unic is unusual- a French lorry with an axle configuration more typical of an Italian. Maybe secondhand Unics were more valuable to the French, so that one had a mid-life repatriation?k
