From memory i think we were told that the Preval truck was a demonstrator. A french driver has just
confirmed this to me.1

I have placed the word ‘demonstrator’ in the right-hand column. Thanks for that confirmation. Because it was registered on something akin to our trade plates, we may never know where this example ended up. Robert
We’re now looking at six NGC draw-bar outfits (if you discount the five sent to Falcon Freight in Jeddah with fifth-wheel turnables attached for artic use!): one Belgian (Thibaut), two French white liveried spotted by an Italian correspondent, the French Gentilucci Freres vehicle, the orange French tilt and this latest two-tone blue one. It is possible that this demonstrator somehow was linked to CDB as they
had a branch-office in 08000 Charleville-Mézières (Nord of France) for
other automotive business. As the registration however is 2751W92 and
‘not’ 2751W08 it is still possible that MaBo somehow had a demonstrator.
I just wondered if the following 2 vehicles could be from the same company or sold by the same garage ?
Register no 44 reg 813AMH75 and no 66 reg 785AHD75 ,both registered same department (Paris).I dont know
much about french registration but normally they only have 2 letters in the middle, these 2 both have 3 ■■ Does
anyone know why that is ■■
What’s that, behind the yellow ERF?
There is what looks to be a Raba approaching from behind the three parked vehicles.
I’ve just made up a new rule for this forum- all odd vehicles in photos must be identified.

ERF-Continental, is that the correct number plate,i did not realise we had a full number plate for that lorry
or is there a number missing by the W ? I thought you had to have 2 letters ? might be wrong !?

It’s a temporary plate (a bit like our trade plates). That’s how we worked out that it was a demo. There’s a lot of discussion of it earlier in the thread. Robert
@DEANB, to me that’s the numberplate in which the W stands for trader/garage and 92 represents the department/region in France. Quite some time ago good old (and so very missed today) John
(Saviem) explained what the reason of three letters in stead of two was, but I can’t find it here in the many pages. There are more/other participants over the last period that could explain again.
A-J posted it on page 22 @ 09/02/14 (see link below). He has since removed the picture and some of the comments that followed. However, if you read through the next two or three pages you can pick a few bones out of it! Robert

Ok,thanks ERF and Robert for clarifying.

Or possibly a Yugoslavian-built FAP like this one (notice the way the light catches the top of the slightly protruding grille in the above picture, as indeed it does on the NGC!). Robert
More intelligence from Switzerland! It seems that H Burkhard had two NGCs and the other was almost certainly the mystery red one with the cream grille. When his business was failing he went to work at neighbouring workshop to ERFIM and his second NGC (just described) was pressed into service to try and earn a bit. I have names. More information is on the way… Robert

I think we’ve already established that there has to be a difference between a long wheelbase tractor unit v a rigid/drawbar prime mover.IE there’s no way that the relationship between drive axle position/chassis rear over hang/fifth wheel mounting position could work by just bolting a fifth wheel to a typical rigid chassis.
A long wheelbase tractor unit therefore has to be purpose designed as that with a different drive axle to chassis mounting relationship so as to not put the chassis rails extending behind the drive axle through the landing legs when it’s coupled up.

hey Anorak, as Robert said, its a Fap and behind a Fiat, think two Yougoslavians, and pic maybe made over there too.
At the back end it looks a Hungaro Raba to be.

I thought we established months ago that in the Middle East they still do it whatever you say - I saw it with my own eyes when I lived there. Didn’t we also mention chopping the unwanted bits of the back to avoid fouling? Here’s a pic I took in Cairo. Robert
