Re the last photo of the new blue one, could it be a rigid? The headboard looks close to the back of the cab and it looks exactly the same colour blue.

Just a thought.

Its been quite a week on this thread.,well done chaps.

Steve.

Good point Steve,it could be a rigid ? Heres is a bigger picture. Now look at the f88 volvo near the end.The f88
has the same body as the ERF and colour. Therefore one would assume that they are the same company ?

What i want to know is what bodies are on them trucks ? They have canvas roofs like tippers, but i dont
think they are tippers looking at the red merc with the luton above the cab. I wonder what them bodies
carry normally ■■

I have used an online translation website which is useless it never translates properly but gives us a rough
translation. (Can some translte it please ) From what i can make out it was taken in Chalons-Sur-Marne,
which had its name changed in 1998 to Chalons-en-Champagne,France.

I think it is 100 % French as another driver mentions it was probably bought from “Le garage de la Marne,Reims”
which apparently sold several NGC’s according to him. Reims is not very far away from where the picture was taken. The garage later became a Volvo garage and has now closed.(Crap translation again)

@Deanb…there you have your drawbars…and Garage de la Marne (in Thillois with < 250 inhabitants) got follow-up by Garage Colosio SRL from 38, Rue Saint Léonard in 51100 Reims
very close to the expo. Colosio was in charge for ERF in the era of the C- and E-series and
the owner Claude Colosio is now retired but very helpful with French sales-literature.

HRS:
Hi All, My thoughts, If the line of trucks were on bays then who would let cars be parked at the end of the row ?
Back then we worked on 24ft body and 24ft trailer + A frame about 8 feet so this might be just a parking lot ?
Could they all be cattle transporters with protectors on the front of the body (as with the Luton Merc) ?
In which case could they all be parked up at the Market ?
Dont be to hard on me chaps, just trying to think, difficult at my age. Harvey

They’ll be parked up outside Les Routier having their lunch washed down with a carafe vin rouge, I’ll wager  . Robert

The family Varnerot had also (and still by the son) a LES ROUTIERS in Chepy, not far from
Chalons sur Marne, next to their transport-business. The NGC was operational for a small
transport-company in the regio and did Italy-transport. Possibly the lorries transported
clay and pottery? Because of weight and long distance the NGC was doing a good job then.

The Mercedes (with Luton) on the picture is from Auguste Acosta very active in transport
of furniture for local furniture-industries. Perhaps the NGC did furniture to/from Italy. It
has been confirmed that the drawbar had a trailer.

So we need to find the name of the small company. Is it possible that they also owned the Volvo further up the line? Robert

That’s from a Bandag advert. Chris Till took the original colour picture, which is in Book 2  . Robert

Good! BTW, I emailed this picture to its erstwhile driver, Chris Till (after the first time you posted it) and he was absolutely delighted with it! Robert

Not new on here, but a slightly clearer version. It was taken by truck photographer Adrian Cypher and it appeared on the front cover of a REVS International mag issue a couple of years back. It’s a lovely photo. Robert

I don’t know more about the French NGC drawbar (dark and light blue) but at the French
website it was mentioned that it belonged to a small company with Italy as main route.

No info on the Volvo if that also belonged to that small fleet. It was a very informative post
in which the previous (to Colosio) ERF-dealer (Reims/Marne) was mentioned and that they
continued with Volvo after ERF.

With regard to the rag-top box bodies/trailers beloved of the French in the '60s/'70s we touched on further up the page, ‘Fergie47’ has just posted this absolutely brilliant French information film on the Scrapbook Memories thread (see link below). It shows you all you need to know about how this style of trailer worked. Fabulous! Robert

Heres a pic of the garage Colosio .

‘…but at the French website…’

What French website? Robert

The red Volvo belonged to R. Varnerot who also run a Les Routiers. After the
transport-company was ended the restaurant remained in hands of the family
and was run by the son.

The blue Volvo far left is supposed to be from the same (small) company who
had the NGC drawbar. The owner of the Mercedes (Luton) is Auguste Acosta
and till recently quite a large company. They did furniture-transports and my
idea/expectation is that the NGC drawbar (with trailer) perhaps ran the Italy-
route for furniture as well. Just a thought.

Parts of the website have been posted but herewith the full page

From memory i think we were told that the Preval truck was a demonstrator. A french driver has just
confirmed this to me.
