Fergie47:
Just got sent a batch of old pic’s. Sorry if this has been posted before, couldn’t go through 115 pages, I’ll take it off if it has…
Nice to be reminded of it, Fergie! This Belgian example was acquired by John Simmons to be cannibalised for spares for GEH 523N, which he used for heavy haulage. The 335 lump, 13-speed Fuller and beefed up suspension was utilised. The picture was taken, I believe, by Dave Wallace. Robert
OK lads, popcorn at the ready! Here are a couple of REAL new gems. I now have a most excellent new Swiss contact who is an ERF fan (well-informed) who has worked as a driver twixt Switzerland and UK and makes exquisite ERF models in 1:50 scale. He informs me that there were two more Swiss NGCs (in addition to the two that we already know about). These were both owned by M Knopfli (umlaut over the o) of Regensdorf. They were an engineering company who maintained Caterpillar and other construction machinery.
One was sold in the late ‘80s to an owner-driver who wrote it off. The other went to a collector who died leaving no trace of the ERF, despite the efforts of my correspondent to delve. Its disappearance was far too late to be considered as a possible import to UK. It is quite possible that this unit is lurking in a barn somewhere but who knows…?
The pictures below were taken in the early '90s in Wetzikon. I have more pictures from this set but have held them back just for now. Unfortunately we have no registration numbers yet but as my correspondent is in contact with the original owner, these are likely (hopefully) to be revealed.
All this is absolutely brilliant news of course because it means we can now account for TWO NEW NGCs and a damned good day’s work, I’d say!
BTW, Dean: was that pic taken by the same photographer who took the previous set? If so, I’ll use it to replace one of the pics I chose for the book . Cheers, roebrt
Now that we have FOUR Swiss NGCs we might look at how they were provided. Given that only four are known, it is of course possible that MABO in France acted as importers/dealers. Having said that, we have no evidence that MABO actually dealt with NGCs but rather that they dealth with B-series from '77 onward. Then again, we know that several B-series ‘Europeans’ were supplied to Switzerland where they were favoured for their abilities in the mountains. Well hold on: we also know that the NGC was especially known for its mountain-goat agility in the hills. There are loose ends here!
The Swiss agent was ERFIM AC in Basel, located in Neuhofstrassen ll, 4153 Reinach/Basel.
Good find Robert. Can you check with the Swiss driver if the company moved from Hagendorf to Regensdorf ?
I can only find M.Knopfli AG in Regensdorf ?
Did he take the pics in Wetzikon ?As it would be nice if we knew if that was a dealers yard ? Just thinking it
looks a bit tired in that pic and with no number plate may be it had been replaced with a newer vehicle ?
I dont know anything about registering a truck in Switzerland, but it seems a bit odd that the number plate
has been taken off ? No sign writing or company logos makes you also wonder if it was at the end of its life
with M.Knopfli ? Its amazing that new ones are still turning up like this. The company must have been a fair
size you would think to keep two busy. Do we know if 4x2 or 6x4 chassis ?
Good stuff lets hope he has some more information.

I assume that the same agent in Basel would have supplied this ERF as well for Christian Zucconi.

Well spotted Dean. Yes, I’m sorry, that should indeed be Regensdorf and not Hagendorf. If you look at the picture below you can see the name and the place on the cab door. I’ve just corrected it in my post above.
I’ll post some more pics on shortly, which show them to be 4x2 configuration. The pictures were taken by the person who owns the website I mentioned. You could be right about a dealer’s yard. Robert

Yes, I looked at that brochure before posting but it doesn’t give addresses. Robert

Is this also a Swiss one,i know the name sounds english but i seem to remember this being Swiss ?
Yes, if you go to the LHD B-series thread you’ll find more information on that picture and several other Swiss B-series units. Which reminds me, I’ve got a backlog of pics and info to post on that both that thread and the LHD C-series thread! Robert
Of course this set of pictures shows the unit that went to the collector before disappearing, not the unit that was written off by an o/d in the late '80s. Robert

Good thing I’ve taken me popcorn out, there’s not only a “new” NGC on display, but a VW Scirocco as well…being an ex VW mechanic, and previous owner of three Scirocco’s, that’s enough to keep my heart beating…

Double-whammy, then! Glad to oblige. Apparently, this was the ERF’s long-term parking arrangement under the auspices of the vehicle collector, so not a dealer’s yard after all. Robert
