ERF EC SERIES...still plenty about

Like i said, im not knockin the continentals, they are a nice place to spend the day, and, ive spent more workin hours in Volvos & Scanias than i ever will in an ERF, but in this cost effective world we live in, there always would have been a place for a quality engineered product at an atractive price. The other point i was making was that ERF was closed,( just like foden was by Pacca), they didnt disapear because they were no-good, or not op to job and had to go, it was just a case of the little fish being swallowed to gain market share, It is a popular mis-conseption!! Thanks for ya responce mercman, i know they lack a bit of razzamataz for the poor bloke at the sharp end, but you had to a long way to beat-em!, Scanias and the like had to be that much beter so that our govners would buy-them! a back-handed complement to the long lost British truck industry eh■■? Cheers, Chris.

I agree, I think that if the British Government had allowed our manufacturers to be more competitive & give them the same support as the continentals got then we would still have a British lorry manufacturer, it’s well known that Austin & Morris dragged down the British Leyland empire & with it Leyland, AEC, Scammell & Guy, once these had gone the suppliers went with them, making it more expensive for the remainder to get parts, which drove the cost up & made them build lorries using cheaper, inferior parts, not the drivetrains, but the little things & from a guvnors perspective a 5 grand F88 with immediate delivery had to be a better bet than a 6 grand ERF in 18 months time.

The people responsible should be lined up against a wall & shot repeatedly :smiling_imp:

I make you right mercman, its lucky this country makes fxxck-all, coz we dont build anything to carry it anymore!! lol. :stuck_out_tongue:

all i can say is thats the best we had to offer what chance did we have

open ya mind a bit eh?
