one i was shunting with a few weeks back…
to be fair not a bad motor in reality its just that you have to compare cab comfort with the volvos and dafs on the road.
that looks very much like a ex meachers of southampton
no mate bratts of cheadle i have driven that one and had the sister wagon for a few years the air kit was put on after they was sold
Had this from new EC12/ Fuller gear box(Road Ranger i think!!!■■?) L225 HAW lift up tag on unit and trailor use to go well.
ERF Dealer and Haulier.
That blue Grundon lorry is exactly like the one i passed my rigid test in,nice drive, smart looking aswell
personally i think they are the worst truck i have ever driven, the only pic i can use at the mo is this one which is my brothers (my photobucket account is playing up, got some pics of the ones i used to drive)
I dont reckon much to your brothers parking matt!
was he ok?

was he ok?
yeah he was, he was avoiding a 7.5 tonner that came haring down the road, met him, skidded and shot past, if he didnt hedge it, the outcome would of been a lot worse!
(i think its the best place to put an erf! )
here is my old erf at truckfest its dead now
i crashed it
it was a great truck stack up the back of the cab 405 bhp sounded mega
i miss the sound of that humming ■■■■■■■ 405
Your dead right ECX, it is indeed a 550 and was the ex demonstrator formerly run by K n P Iddon (r.i.p.). Looked nice in there colours. go to the top of the class ECX!
was the erf in maersk livery owned by ken petty?
809500 KMS only had a clutch

Had MAN not disposed of the ECX shortly after the take-over, the ECX was designed to be fitted with the then newly designed ■■■■■■■ 15litre signiture 600+bhp engine (wich ERF had already started fitting in export raised cab EC. Truck magazine had a short demo in one, and i remember seeing 1 at truckfest 99 on the ERF stand. awsome lump apparentley, an New Zealand O/D said that his 2000 registed machine rated at 630 leaves 660 Volvos ect standing still!! Aparentley MAN did have ago at fitting the mighty sgniture under the TGA/ECT cab, but were unable to get sufficient clearance, in other words, it just wouldnt fit!
Did you see the Topgear episode, where they had the lorry driving challenge? Hamster had an Ec11 6x2 restcab, and when they completed the speed challenge, he got the ERF hitting 90 mph!!!
Goes nearly as well as our old C series!!!
MR VAIN:
Albeit with a new owner, this was the first truck i had after passing my test in 2001. 350 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Happy days. I was like a dog with 2 ■■■■■. It went like a train. Sadly i only had it 6 weeks and was then moved on to a 380 Scania. Strangely i dint arf moan!
so rob you said u where looking for a new motor guess u found it
I must admit old Erf’s do dog on, despite what alot of drivers might say.
They get alot of stick coz they aint got Scania on the front panel!! people are just bothered about the badge on the front, even if it does cost alot more to buy and twice as much to fix when it goes wrong!!. Some Idiot on this site a couple of mnths back said that ERF had gone bust, the fact is they have never gone bust, they soldiered on through recession after recssion with no help from the goverment (unlike Leyland, who still couldnt carry on after the Goverment had fed it awsome amounts of cash) and if Peter Foden hadnt sold it to WesternStar would probly still be here today. MAN only bought iERF to get rid of it, so as to gain a greater market share, sad when you think of it, especialy when in 2001 when ERF were actually out-selling MAN above 17ton!!! I wont hav a bad word said against ERF, they were the most productive motors on the road, reliable, economical and a whole-life cost which was about half that of the compairable Scania or Volvo, dont get me wrong, Scanias, Volvos are top motors to drive and WERE well built, but ERF had their place in the European truck market, with a much-missed product,
MR VAIN:
I had an EC10 4 wheeler as my first, twin split box. I loved it. Then an EC14 that went like a train and the last one was an EC11 6 wheeler. I begged for an olympic, and he bought me an FM12 which i disliked purely based on the fact it wasn’t a ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ So i went out and bought my own, a scania■■? I’ll see if i can find a picture of the EC11.
My EC11 at ploughing match (Festival of the Plough, Epworth) Ex Turner of Much Hoole, near Preston. Regards Big Al
Straight Eight,
I don’t think the badge has anything to do with it, I’m not a lover of ERFs, or any recent British built lorry, this is because they fall well short of the competion on driver comfort. The drivetrain on the later ERFs etc (that’s latin BTW not a model of ERF ) was more than a match for anything else on the market & any proper driver likes a constant mesh gearbox, but lets face it, given the choice between an ERF or a Volvo/Scania/Daf, most of us would take the increased comfort of the import every time.
