heres a couple of pics

Youve still got her then, nice tidy 11 that Jody, how long do you plan to keep it mate? Surprised you hav’nt had the lap-top treatment on that M11 to get 440 out of it! Nice motor, credit to ya

thanks straighteight its goin to be a life’r i think mate …its not worth sellin. i’m parkin it up at the end of the month as a spare wagon i’ve just bought an erf ect olympic 480 to replace it…

Sounds nice mate, must MAN powered, judging by the hp. Dont cost anything to park the EC11 up does it, and at the same time your safe in the knowlage of knowing you’ve got a back up if anything should happen (heaven forbid!). Bloke i know has just had 2 8-wheeler EC11’s, an R and an S plate, fully refurbished from the ground up and inside out because they have been such good tools and just couldnt see the point of replacing them with something that could’nt do the job any better for a heap of money. He does buy new (2 R series 8 wheelers jioned december), but the way things are going he thought keeping the old ERFs on the fleet would be a safer bet on the financial side!!
Your EC11 would be nice for preservation in a few years time, dare say you’ll still have it!

This is the first new truck I had and I have to say the best so far  . As you can see we used it for a wedding on this particular day.

this must be one of the last ec11’s made being on an x plate … i’ve never sceen one on a y has anyone else■■? i know the ecx’s were out on x plates …

Yeah, there were quite a few X-plate EC’s jody, there was a large cross over with the EC/ECX ranges, i think alot of it was down to changing Factories and ranges at the same time.

Straight Eight,

I was with ERF during this period, it was due to a few factors, Factory and new product, as you have said, but the main problem was that orders outstripped supply and coponent supply could not keep up, there were ECX’s sat around the factory at Middlewich unfinished and holding the line up with all sorts of bits missing.

I sold the 1st ECX with a 14 litre in it and after being 5 weeks late arrived at our dealership without any dash in it - apparently they couldn’t get the standard dash to talk to the 14 litre engine, so just sent it out anyway to let us sort out !!!

Cheers Ant, i did hear a few horror stories like that!, I also heard that MAN forced ERF to introduce the ECX/ECS range earlier than planned, and that led to alot of fixtures & fittings problems??

Sort of, it was actually the Euro 3 deadline that forced the early introduction, but MAN stepped in and forced the ECS on us, due to them having a lot of cab shells and parts over after the introduction of the TGA etc and then the financial issue kicked in and killed it all.

Funny story !!! - When we toook customers to the launch at Bruntingthorpe, one of the ECX launch models (static display) had the origanal R&D wooden mirrors on it, as they did not have enough produced for all of the launch vehicles, even on the day, there was bits and peices missing off the vehicles all over the place ■■ - Good times. Also drove the Left hand drive 14 litre which was on the stand at Frankfurt - well say drove, put on a lowlaoder for a local show, it could not be driven on the road, as the steering was not set up correctly, due to it being left hand drive !!!

Saw that left ■■■■■■ couple of months back, the original owner ( a mr welbourne■■?) has sold it on to another owner driver, pulls boxes out of Felixstowe i think? It wears air-con on the roof and got a pair of Eminox up the back of the cab, the 525 sounds loverly though them!! Its a shame about ERF, much missed!
Love the story mate, sounds so British!!! LEYLAND would’ve sold’em like that back in the 70’s!!
