You wouldn’t make jokes like that if you knew how bad I get cramp in the toes from hanging on.

Just a thought how many hgv drivers are there in the uk?

Well done there, ive signed it and posted a bit of a letter as well…

Received a reply from my MP (George Freeman) telling me he would take it up with Mike Penning, Under Secretary of State for Transport, and get back to me as soon as he has a response.

Sounded genuine enough…

It seems like this one is struggling to reach 1000 signatures never mind 100,000

Done…

Needs to be put out there, other websites, driver waiting rooms, work notice boards, truck stops etc…

I’ve signed it but to be honest it has no chance of succeeding, secure service areas across the country for truck drivers subsidised by the taxpayer at a time of recession, sorry but that’s not going to happen.

Better reasonably priced facilities for truck drivers at existing and new motorway services may stand a chance of consideration but more than that is just wishful thinking in my honest opinion.

Having said that I wish you good luck with it anyway

I hate to be the one who points this out but all these service station and truck stops are out to make money. They will not lavish £1000’s of pounds on refurbing their facilities when it won’t pick them up any extra revenue.

On a seperate note, most of the truck stops I have been in have been minging because of one elemant…DRIVERS! Some, neh most are disgusting, don’t care how they leave it, and looking at some wouldn’t really care how they find it. I went to go in a shower once and a guy came out, I looked down and he had left a steaming pile in the corner!!! I said “oi, what the nb is that you scummy nb!” He shrugged his shoulders and said “couldn’t hold it in, thought that was a gooder place as any” :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I hope this petition works, but to be honest I can’t see it doing alot :frowning:

Historically there has been quite a lot of infrastructure investments which have been made at economically challenging times like during the great depression of the 1920’s and after the second world war. Done in the right way, the proposed improvements could open opportunities for new businesses thereby providing jobs, reduce road accidents (which cost the taxpayer real money) and help to make journeys more efficient since drivers would no longer be going miles out of their way thereby reducing transport costs and unnessecary traffic. It is exactly the sort of stratergy which is being lauded by Barack Obama at the moment who has become fond of reminding his countrymen that they are still relying on early 20th century transport infrastructure for 21st century traffic. The fact of the matter is that as the economic misery deepens transport companies will find it tougher to remain profitable and criminality will likely become more prolific so if conditions are allowed to deteriorate it could make haulage costs even more astronomical than they already are with thefts contributing to soaring insurance premiums and unfulfilled orders. Improving parking provision is exactly the sort of thing that would help to make doing business in this country less of a ballache for all concerned and would be a long term investment which needn’t necessarily be exclusively for lorries and it should pay for itself in the end anyway because it would help the economy to grow since growth is greatly hindered by an insufficient infrastructure as has been proved conclusively by the Russians.

756 now, still a long way to go before we hear the politicians say “up yours” we need to embezzle all the money we can for ourselves especially in economic times of uncertainty.
